Stan is shaping up to be an AMAZING Villain
Is Shirley's big secret that she tried to drown to mick in the bath?
What a brilliant , dark and tragic twist on their relationship How will everyone react Stan is shaping upto to be a wonderful and dark and evil character. He's physically frail and aged But he is psychologically abusive. Using his frailty to manipulate people whilst playing everyone off against each other Amazing villain |

I agree, it looks like he's trying to isolate Shirley from the family. He's always said put downs for her and now it looks like he's trying to win Mick over while keeping Shirley in line (if he really is keeping a secret for her) so that she can't protest against him being there and if she does, he's hoping for the rest of the family to back him up and go against Shirley - making her all alone again.

I am not an EE aficionado, although my wife is, she would not miss an episode.
To elaborate, I don't dislike it, it just isn't for me, I wouldn't purposely leave the room if it came on, it's just background noise that I can ignore. I know the basics, and most of the characters, you cannot always pointedly look away when it is on, but one night this week I walked into the next room to read the paper as EE came on TV. Gradually a recognisable voice filtered through into my ears, and I glanced through into the living room. Sure enough, it was Timothy West, playing Danny Dyer's father. Now Mr. West is a very fine actor, that goes without saying, stage, screen and TV, he's done it all, and with admirable skill, but he shares one thing that almost all "upper class" actors have in common. Their inability, no matter how they might try, to master some "working class" ways of enunciating certain words or phrases, e.g. the words cold, gold, bowl, fold, sold etc. They cannot bring themselves to pronounce the the first two letters of these words any other way than to rhyme with go, making them sound like coled, goled, bole, foled, and soled. Any self respecting cockney will say those words as culld , guld, buwal, fuld, and suld. |

He's very Silas-like. I like the psychological, manipulative villians the best!

agreed. it seems that, that is exactly what his intentions are. I certainly think there is more too it then what has been implied. Shirley isn't that evil and it would ruin her whole relationship with her family..!!
Brilliant scene, really looking forward to how Stan's story unravels with the Carters, I can tell he's going to be a love to hate character soon

Why would Shirley try to drown her younger brother though?
