Sometimes downloading BBC IPlayer program via a VPN can be a bit slow due to traffic on VPN. There is a simple trick that can sometimes help.

1. logon to VPN
2. start download.
3. on download page, click pause on download,
3. logoff from VPN
4. click resume on download.

You will often find the download speed increases significantly as you are no longer using the VPN.

I can't guarantee it will help in all cases of course.

The reason this works is due to a little known feature in BBC IPlayer which allows you to finish a download even if abroad, once you have started it. This was brought in when broadband was much slower, but the feature still exists today although BBC never mention it anymore.
