And good news this morning for Team Brownlee - next years Triathlon World Series will feature a race from Leeds. Don't fancy the swimming leg much.

Good weekend for Britain's sailers in the Weymouth World Cup - in the Olympic class races we got 3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze, so well on target for Rio. Golds for Giles Scott in the Finn, Nick Dempsey in the windboard and Mills/Clark in the 470.

Not so good for the women's basketball team, they have lost all three of their games so far, so are definitely out of the Rio qualifying places.

And the women's hockey team are well on course for qualification for the semis, with wins over Spain, Argentina and Canada. Final group game is against China on Tuesday.

They won gold in the LTAMix4+ as well (full results here), so 5 gold / 10 medals overall. 7 of those (4 gold + 3 bronze) were won in Olympic classes.

Injury for Jonny Brownlee makes him a doubt for the Olympic selection races in Rio and Chicago at the end of the summer.

Universiade

This weekend sees the beginning of the biennial summer Universiade - ie the World Student Games. Unlike the European Games, it sticks quite tightly to Olympic sports only and isn't dragged out over 18 days. The east European, Asian and North Americans always send very strong teams, often including people competing at the top world level. We don't send any teams at all, but it's possible that some individuals might be competing. Expect cute manga-type mascots.

There's lots of coverage all next week on Eurosport, starting on Sunday.

Rather eccentric Korean-English Official Site here.

Full programme on Wikipedia

Canoe slalom
Third Canoe slalom World Cup event of the season, this time from Liptovsky, Slovakia. Team GB have been doing pretty well in the last two meets, a good haul of minor medals and lots of athletes getting into the top 10 final runs. No space on Eurosport, but streaming on YouTube

The Modern Pentathlon World Championships were held in Berlin at the weekend - again, no TV coverage, not even streaming. Team GB didn't do very well - best was Sam Murray in 5th in the womens, but none of the men made the top 20, so no early Olympic Qualifying places

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/modern-pentathlon/33393805

Next up will be the European Champs in Bath in August.

Up this weekend

Rowing
Third and final World Cup of the season from Lucerne, Switzerland. BBC coverage is a bit truncated because of Wimbledon, but it's on BBC Red Button 2 on 12:30, Sunday, highlights on BBC 2 on Monday. Full stream is on Eurovision sports

http://livemanager.eurovision.edgesu...ite/index.html

Universiade
Eurovision has lots of coverage - this weekend is mostly athletics, swimming, volleyball. From what I have seen so far the standard is pretty high - the Russians etc seem to be sending their World level athletes in several sports.

Triathlon
European Championships from Geneva this weekend. The main races are on Saturday, with a mixed relay on Sunday. British teams are

Elite senior women
Lucy Hall, Jessica Learmonth, India Lee, Emma Pallant, Jodie Stimpson

Elite senior men
David Bishop, Thomas Bishop, Matthew Sharp, Grant Sheldon

Don't see any TV or streaming coverage.

5 medals for GB's rowers in Lucerne, all in Olympic events - 2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze. The men's eight was a great battle with Germany, with GB just getting the last surge time right.

In the European Triathlon, we had two top-ten finishes in both the men's and the women's races, and bronze medals from Ben Dijkstra in the Junior Men and from the Mixed Relay.

The World Fencing Championships start this week in Moscow - we are sending pretty much the same team as went to the European Games in Baku. No doubt the French and Italians in particular will be looking for revenge in the Men's Team Foil.

Big event this weekend is the resumption of the Triathlon World Series from Hamburg - two sprint races on Saturday, a mixed relay on Sunday. The Brownlee brothers are out through injury so Britain's men will be Gordon Benson, fresh from his win in Baku and Mark Buckingham. Women's team is Non Stanford, Vicky Holland and Jodie Stimpson.

BBC Red Button Saturday 14:15 - 18:15
BBC Red Button Sunday 15:30-17:30
BBC 2 Monday 13:20-14:20

Some good results from the Hamburg Triathlon - in the women's race a silver for Vicky Holland and a bronze for Non Stanford. More importantly, Vicky Holland was the only person so far this year to get anywhere near the all-conquering Gwen Jorgensen.

The men didn't do so well in the solo race, but they made up for it on Friday with a bronze in the mixed relay (Holland, Gordon Benson, Stanford & Mark Buckingham). Actually they were a bit lucky - the Germans would probably have beaten them but for a 10 sec penalty.

Next event is the Rio test in two weeks time - it's not clear if this will be on TV or not. Any top 3 finish guarantees an Olympic place.

Our fencers could not repeat the Baku miracle in the World Champs in Moscow - the men's team foil eventually finished fifth overall. We beat Germany, but lost to silver medallists Russia in the quarters. However, we then beat the USA and South Korea in the ranking competition to finish fifth overall.

Hadn't known these were on, but Jennifer McIntosh has just finished fourth in the European Shooting Championship in the Women's Rifle Three Position, so secured Britain's first earned Olympic place in the women's rifle since 1988 - we already have three other places, all in shotgun.

This weekend sees the BMX World Championships from Belgium.

Friday: Qualification and Time Trials
Saturday: Elimination and Medal Races.

BBC have livestream coverage from 16:35 Saturday, plus Red Button Coverage from 18:00. BBC 2 Highlights 09:35 Sunday

Live stream: http://www.bmxzolder.be/wkbmx/en/

News from the British team here

And next week also sees yet another Multisports event, the European Youth Olympic Festival from Tblisi, Georgia. 9 sports are represented, Athletics, Basketball, Road Cycling, Gymnastics, Handball, Judo, Swimming, Tennis & Volleyball.

http://tbilisi2015.com/en/

Britain aren't sending a full team - hardly surprising given that there is so much else on - but we have strong representation in Cycling, Gymnastics and Judo.

Something special could be on the cards in Tbilisi - Joe Fraser added overall boy's GOLD to his team gymnastics gold yesterday. He is also qualified for all four apparatus finals.

We've also added five bronzes: Fred Wright in the Boy's Cycling Road Race, Katie Robertson in the 100m Breaststroke, Sophie Hobbah in the 200m Backstroke and the the 200m IM and Annalea Davidson in the 400m Freestyle.

And since I posted this, GOLD for Gianni Regini-Moran and Silver for Hamish Carter in the men's floor!
