Was there a protest? It was a bit of a mess from the BBC. Really poor.

Nevertheless, the boys did brilliantly! That floor routine from Max at the end was spectacular. Amazing to think that GB have the second and third best teams in the world, ten years ago that was a loooooong way off.

What was the protest even all about?

Ok looked it up and there was going to be a protest if Japan didn't get the score they needed. Something about Uchimura's fall and being distracted by the excited GB fans

Men's team final results
JPN 270.818
GBR 270.345
CHN 269.959
RUS 268.362
USA 267.853
SUI 261.660
KOR 260.035
BRA 259.577

Blimey, that final had everything - the Chinese looked vulnerable, the Americans were challenging Japan, Uchimura - the epitome of consistent quality - fell off the horizontal bar, and the Brits' best piece wasn't the pommel horse!

It's great to see Japan finally beating China to their first global team title in 11 years, especially after they just missed out last year. Whilst a first ever WCh team medal for the Brits was on the cards, I reckon very few would have predicted they'd finish ahead of China for silver (now their best ever position in a global team final)...or that the Americans would be in silver medal position for 5 rotations, then fall to fifth because they couldn't tame the horse!

Incidentally, Whitlock scored 90.932 across the six pieces of apparatus. In the individual all-around final, that's almost certainly worth another medal if he can replicate that (in comparison, Uchimura scored 91.531).

England's winning score of 266.804 at Glasgow 2014 would be worth just sixth place today.

Here are the full videos of the team finals:
Women / Men

Given what's happened so far, the British squad could win another 3 or 4 medals (including 1 gold if Whitlock does 16+ in the pommel horse final).

Though she's not in today's all-around final, it's still worth noting that Ellie scored 56.432 during her team final, including that early fall. If either Tinkler or Harrold (who are competing today) can score 57+, that would be impressive.

So far, the highest apparatus scores recorded in these champs by women / men respectively are 16 by Biles on vault (single, not the average of two) and 16.325 (!) by Shirai on floor. Hard to see the latter being bettered throughout these champs, especially without Zonderland in the horizontal bar final.

Despite being shaky on beam and incurring a penalty on floor (thereby scoring over a point less than in qualification), Biles delivers as favourite and becomes the first female gymnast to win a third world title in succession. If she can go on to dethrone compatriot Douglas (silver medal today) as Olympic champion next year, that would be an achievement for the ages.

Larisa Iordache gives Romanian gymnastics a much needed shot in the arm after closing her campaign with a well executed uneven bars routine to claim her second WCh medal in succession, albeit a bronze this time.

As ever, the beam claimed its fair share of victims, including both Brits - seems that the team final took a lot out of them as they finished in 22nd & 23rd place.

Men's all-around building up to excitement - Max Whitlock currently in 2nd after 4 pieces, Dan Purvis in 7th.

And oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, falls off the high bar, only gets a 12.833, so almost certainly out of the medals with just the floor to come.

That was a shame - they did say it was his weakest appuratus.

Good competition by Dan Purvis.

The Cuban was excellent and a real star of the future but Uchimura is a class apart.

Uchimura is a legend - six world titles on the bounce (and an Olympic title) is an exceptional feat never achieved before. It will be a long time before we see anyone else like him.

Manrique Larduet has had a superb evening and gets a silver medal for his troubles - furthermore, he (and Iordache from yesterday) have qualified for Rio, so watch out for him next year. Deng Shudi sneaks above 90 points for a bronze.

Whitlock and Purvis finish in fifth and seventh place respectively. It was a good performance by Purvis, but Whitlock was on for a second silver in succession and possibly 91 points until that very costly fall (almost 2 points?) on horizontal bar. On the plus side, his mental strength was evident after that floor routine (which might be medal worthy tomorrow), and that superb pommel horse routine (16.100) at the start of his AA campaign is world champion material if he repeats it.

It's the weekend, so the apparatus finals are being held in the early afternoon from 1330 on both days.

Today's start list for men's floor / women's vault / men's pommel horse / women's uneven bars / men's rings
Tomorrow's start list for men's vault / women's beam / men's parallel bars / women's floor / men's horizontal bar

Like Smith in London 2012 (IIRC), Whitlock will be last man on the horse.

So great to watch the legend Uchimura in action. Was very impressed by the Cuban lad as well

Gutted for Max but that's Gymnastics, such fine margins - it's a credit to both Vernaiev & Max that they finished as high as 4th or 5th with costly errors.

Really hope Max wins gold today, definitely feel;s time for another British Gymnastics world champs (only Beth with her 3 titles has won to date). Possibly 3 medals today with Louis on Pommel as well & Max on the floor also

Larduet (and Iordache from yesterday) have qualified for Rio.
Oops, got ahead of myself there. This isn't true as the individual qualifying berths are for apparatus finals only, not the all-around finals. Still, you wouldn't bet against both being in Rio.

Shirai wins the men's floor (including quadruple twist!) in 16.233, and Whitlock scores 15.566 for a silver medal! Bronze goes to Rayderley Zapata for a score of 15.200, and Purvis scored 15.100 for fifth.

Ouch, looks like Giulia Steingruber did her knee in after that second vault. She was a potential medallist as well.

Seems like the scoring is different from the commentators. Do the judges get to see video reply from different angles?

Maria Paseka wins the women's vault with an average of 15.666. Hong Un-jong put up a strong title defence with an average of 15.633 for silver, and Biles needed more difficulty on that second vault to do better than bronze (15.541 average) because her D score was 0.8 lower than the other two!

By virtue of better execution than everyone else below the top three, Ellie scores an average of 14.899 for fourth place, like Wilson on last year's horizontal bar.

Louis Smith leads the men's pommel horse with 16.033! Surely only Max Whitlock can deny him the gold!
