BBC Red Button coverage of the final stages of the boxing on Friday and Saturday.
Looking good so far - 11 GB boxers into the quarter finals today.

http://www.gbboxing.org.uk/news/euro...esults-792.php

All the men are still in it, but Nicola Adams is the only woman.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/36031593

And in the weightlifting Zoe Smith and Emily Godley go in the women's 63kg A group today, realistically our main chance of for decent Olympic scores never mind podiums places.. Eurosport 15:30 this afternoon. Some decent PBs and best ever finishes so far, but as you know we are a long way back.

Bit disappointing for Zoe Smith in the weightlifting - was very close to an overall bronze, just lost out after she made her second C&J but couldn't quite hold it solid. so had to waste her third attempt on a repeat. Gets a BRONZE! for the C&J only, 4th in the overall and the snatch. Emily Godley 6th overall. We'll have to wait and see if it's going to be enough for the Olympics.

Russian winner sounded very mannish, it has to be said, so perhaps an upgrade in the future.

Nine British boxers won yesterday, so now they are all just one win away from guaranteed Olympic places at the first attempt.

https://www.teamgb.com/news/olympic2...o-euros-bronze

British diving team named for next month's Euro Champs in London. All should be familiar names by now.

https://www.teamgb.com/news/daley-ex...ps-squad-named

The Weightlifting Olympic Qualifying places race is looking reasonably good in both the men and the women. At roughly the halfway stage the men are 3rd out of 7 in the race for a single place, our women are 2nd out of 7.

And more good news from Norway with a treble BRONZE!!! for Rebekah Tiler (17 years old, from Yorkshire, looks like the lead singer in a heavy metal band circa 1972) in the women's 69kg in the weightlifting.

Which will surely set up a selection dilemma for Rio, because if we only get one quota place overall in Rio, then Rebekah looks like a much better choice than the better-known but somewhat injury-prone Zoe Smith.

Diving World Series from Windsor, Ontario. British A team in action, again all on Eurovision Sports, starting tomorrow evening.

Never in doubt - Nicola Adams is set to defend her Olympic title as she has qualified for Rio.

It's not just about the Olympics though - she also wants gold at next month's WCh (she claimed silver in 2008/10/12).

Ireland's Katie Taylor got beat early on, a bit of a shocker as she is one of Ireland's few medal prospects. There are more chances to qualify though.

Our table-tennis boys didn't qualify at first opportunity, they're now into what is effectively a repechage round robin tournament over the weekend.

Looks like we have got 7 out of the 9 boxers through to the finals and therefore the Olympics, a fantastic score. And the two men's semi-final losers get another attempt on Sunday, I believe.

Joyce has just pummelled a Hungarian so it's now 8 of 9 with one in the box-off. Some good medal prospects.

Not a bad return from 13 starters.

The only one who needs a box-off for early(-ish) qualification is Anthony Fowler. On top of that, there are two more qualification tournaments for the men; the women can also qualify via the World Championships - and despite her first defeat in 5 years, who'd bet against Katie Taylor to do so there?

And he's qualified as well! That makes it 9 out of 13 with other events to come (just 1 shy of the berths acquired for London), so the weight classes for which GB boxers are yet to qualify are as follows:

Men's light welterweight (64kg)
Men's welterweight (69kg)
Women's lightweight (60kg)
Women's middleweight (75kg)

Men's light welterweight (64kg)
Men's welterweight (69kg)
Women's lightweight (60kg)
Women's middleweight (75kg)
The men have two specific dedicated qualifying events to go, the women qualify via their world champs - in theory they have to get to finals, but in practice it will be less because there will be lots of other pre-qualified fighters. But 9 qualifiers so far is great when you consider that powerhouses like China and Cuba have 10, and the USA only has 6.

Well well, another teenage woman from GB has made the ECh weightlifting rostrum!

Last year's European junior champion (Mercy Brown) won +75kg bronze for her combined total and snatch - as a result, GB also topped the women's European qualification rankings! (Doesn't include nations qualified via last year's WCh, but still...)

Heck, even the men (5th in their rankings) did enough for a berth!

The Gymnastics test event started in Rio yesterday which doubles as the final qualifying event for the Games.

Yesterday saw the Men's Artistic qualifying with Ukraine, Germany, Netherlands & France qualifying full teams. Kieran Behan of Ireland was among the individual qualifiers. The Brits had no need to qualify of course but could still send 2 gymnasts to compete. Nile Wilson produced his best AA score of this year with 88.3 but Brink Bevan had a below par day on the 4 pieces he contested. There are apparatus finals tomorrow &Nile has qualified for Rings & High Bar.

Today is the Women's qualifying. The big story will be whether Romania can qualify. The men just missed out. The women had a poor world champs & that was with their star gymnast Iordache who's out injured at the moment. Becky Downie & Gabby Jupp are competing on the bars & beam

What a tournament it has been for the British boxers - 6 winners, 2 finalists and another in third place. Yes, it wasn't the Olympics (and a few of the top Europeans didn't need to be in Samsun) but their performances suggest TeamGB will do pretty damn well in 4 months' time.

That backflip by Joe Joyce was the icing on the cake.

The trend continues - James Cooke won gold whereas Prentice / French / Murray were bunched in 7th to 9th place (collectively their best performance of the season).

For Olympic qualification, Cooke needs to be top-3 in next month's World Championships; failing that, top-7 in the world rankings on 1 June. (In both cases, only those not yet qualified will be ranked for this purpose.)

Well it's official Romania hasn't qualified a full gymnastics team for the olympics.

And in diving news Tom Daley won the bronze medal in 10 m final and silver with his parter in synchro, Tonia Crouch and Lois Toulson won bronze in the synchro

Despite not being selected for the European Rowing Championships, Nathaniel Reilly O’Donnell and Matthew Tarrant did their quest for Olympic selection no harm by winning World Cup gold in the men's coxless pair this weekend. Not the strongest field, but a welcome development nonetheless as James Foad succumbed to injury this season.

The English women won the Canadian leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series, so come Rio the GB squad will be hoping for a medal. The men's squad has generally been off-key since the 2013 World Cup final.

Brazil, Germany, Belgium and France were the countries that qualified full teams for women's artistic gymnastics. Here's a full breakdown of those qualified in both MAG and WAG.

Well it's official Romania hasn't qualified a full gymnastics team for the olympics.
That ends their streak of women's team medals, which goes back to 1976.

Nathan Bailey has secured GB one male spot in trampoline.

Pity we didn't qualify any rhythmic gymnasts though.

We have got some synchro swimmers, though, that's a rarity!

News from the British Sprint Canoeing Trials.

https://www.britishcanoeing.org.uk/n...ection-trials/

You may remember we have had golds in the last two Olympics from Ed McKeever and Dr. Tim Brabants, but overall the team have not been completely convincing over this Olympic cycle. Next main events are the European Qualifiers 18-19 May and two World Cups later that month, after which the team will be finalised.

Canoe slalom qualification was all sorted out last year, they have some training events in Rio over the next month, but the World Cup season doesn't start till June.
