Great stuff from our Junior Gymnasts yesterday. Russia had built a healthy lead after the first 4 apparatus but they had a disaster with falls on High Bar which meant the gap was less than a point going into the last piece. Regini-Moran & Fraser are both excellent on P Bars and the Brits were able to overtake at the death

Regini-Moran topped qualifying in the All Around, Floor, Vault & P Bars and also qualified for Rings & Pommel. Shocking performance not to qualify for High Bar really.

Joe Fraser also qualified for AA plus apparatus finals on Pommel, P Bars & High Bar and Jamie Lewis qualified for Floor.

Seniors qualification today starting at 5 PM.

-60kg bronze for Katie Taylor; she won't be a six-time world champion* as she loses out by a split decision (2:1) - quite a few of the Twitterati are questioning the scores for her semi. Still, her unbeaten record in global championships went back some 10 years (if not more), and of course she can avenge her defeat in Rio.

-75kg bronze for Savannah Marshall - out by unanimous decision, but a return to great form nonetheless. She now has a medal of each colour.

Thai flyweight Peamwilai Laopeam is the only opponent between Nicola Adams and an elusive WCh title. The Irish also have Kellie Harrington in the -64kg final.

[* Ergo, she still shares the record of 5 with Indian legend Mary Kom]

It was a good day for the seniors in MAG qualification:
* The team came 2nd, about 0.7 behind Russia
* Purvis =4th on floor
* Smith 1st on pommels
* Thomas 1st on high bar, 6th on vault and 8th on floor
* Tulloch 6th on rings (handguard snapped off according to BG Twitter)
* Wilson 2nd on high bar (also 1st reserve on parallel bars)

Full results for the entire competition available here.

Seven British judoka have been invited to this weekend's IJF World Masters in Guadalajara. Olympic qualification rankings will be confirmed the day after the event's conclusion.

Good results for the Seniors in qualifying. Being so close to the Russians without Max was good - I think my estimate of Max's absence losing around 3 points was about right based on today's scores. No major errors from the Brits but some scope for a slightly higher score in the final.

I think they will be disappointed to come away with less than 4 or 5 apparatus medals on Sunday.

No AA final but based on scores of those who did all 6 pieces Nile was 2nd & Dan 3rd behind Oleg Vernaiev.

Junior All Around final tomorrow evening

Some news on the Senior women's gymnastics team for next week. Although it's not been officially confirmed by British Gymnastics it seems that Becky Tunney is out, replaced by Gabby Jupp. Good news for Gabby but feel for Becky & a big dent in her chances for Rio

And even more stuff this weekend

BMX World Championships from Medellin, Colombia. Liam Phillips and Kyle Evans are again our medal hopes. Live on BBC Streaming, then on BBC Red Button 22:00 Sunday night.

TV coverage of the Rowing World Cup is a bit skinny because Gymnastics are taking centre stage on the Red Button, but it's live on BBC Streaming, and Eurovision Sports

http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/fisa/live.html?id=73

Extended highlights on BBC2 14:00 Sunday, will be 60% blethering and 40% splashing.

In the Modern Pentathlon Samantha Murray and Kate French both got into Friday's World Cup Final; Freyja Prentice and debutante Jo Muir didn't make it.
Jamie Cooke our only qualifier in the Men's final on Saturday; Joe Choong [already has Olympic qualifying standard] narrowly missed out, Sam Curry and Tom Toolis both further back. Jamie now has a great chance to qualify Rio, but there are lots of permutations involving other athletes and a single stroppy horse.

At last! She's finally won all the majors available to her and is without doubt the favourite for (another) Olympic title this summer.

BTW, that makes it 5 global championship women's flyweight medals in succession for GB/England.

And in the European Archery Champs
Patrick Huston earned an Olympic berth for GB by winning bronze in the men's recurve. He was also a three-time junior/cadet-level world champion (1x individual/2x team) around 2/3 years ago, so he could be properly mixing it with the big boys in future.

Also just realised the significance of the host city.

Oh, and Lizzie has been at it again after a well-deserved break. Must say it's been a great day for Yorkshire world champion lasses.

Not a good result in the end for the women - Sam Murray 16th and Kate French 24th. Murray had done well all day, but her early shooting let her down in the combined and allowed lots of other good competitors to come past her. So the selectors have a choice to make with three eligible girls chasing two places.

It's gold and bronze in the junior all-around for Giarnni Regini-Moran and Joe Frazier with scores of 86.198 and 83.764 respectively.

Regini-Moran's AA vault was scored at 15.466...he may well be the most talented junior since Twist Quadruple-san.

Regini-Moran's score of 86+ very impressive for a Junior Gymnast. Fraser might have got silver but for a mistake on P Bars. Regini-Moran's score was 1.5 points higher than Nile Wilson when he won 2 years ago. A Brit has now won this titles each edition going back to Dan Keatings in 2008

Wow, the Russians really took it to everyone today. 271.378 (267.725 in Q) puts them in strong Olympic contention, without doubt - 268.427 (267.020 in Q) for GB, so even if Whitlock was there I think they'd still have been pipped.

David Belyavskiy is back to his best - 76.498 over 5 pieces means he has 91+ in him.* Nikita Nagornyy (76.116 over 5 pieces) has 90+ in him, which is impressive for someone who was in the Youth Olympics not two years ago!

GB lost a chunk (compared to qualifying) in the high bar, but they still improved overall. Wilson was the key player in their squad, having scored 89.665 across all pieces, including a mighty 15.966 on parallel bars! (That said - unless someone pulls out of that event final, he won't be in it.)

Smith produced a sublime routine (E score 9.066) on pommels for 15.966; Tulloch scored a big 15.766 on rings.

The Swiss team scored 263.278 for a very popular bronze medal.

[* Behind the GOAT, there will be an almighty scrap for Olympic AA medals.]

Does anyone else think Putin has given the Russian team a kick? I hope that if they don't do well in Rio that they are all ok if that makes sense?

Jamie Cooke 9th in the Modern Pentathlon World Champs in Moscow. secures Olympic Qualifying quota place. so we will have a full team - 2 men, 2 women - in Rio.

It hasn't been the best day for GB seniors in today's apparatus finals.

Smith had a rare jour sans on pommels as his hand slipped off mid-routine; Tulloch was OK on rings but there was a medal for the taking; and Thomas lost a medal with his second vault (a shame because his first vault was excellent).

Thankfully, they finished on a high with their first ever 1-2 on high bar (Wilson/Thomas). 15.300 for the former is also a good sign for the future.

Gymnast of the meet was Belyavskiy - he'll be a factor in Rio.

So much going on that I missed that there was another Canoe Sprint World Cup this weekend, in Racice, Czech Republic. And things are looking up for the team after the disappointment of the Rio Qualifiers

GOLD!!! for Rio-Qualified Liam Heath in the Men's K200!!! Silver!! for Rebii Simon in the Womens K1000!! Bronze! for Rio-Qualified Heath and John Schofield in the men;s K2 200!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/canoeing/36408458

So although the Rio team won't be as big as we wanted, there will still be medal chances.

Rowing - Team GB were a bit illness-stricken at the Lucerne Regatta, so performances were a bit down in some boats. Glover and Stannard couldn't race at all. Final score was 2G (Men's Four, non-Olympic lightweight pair), 3S 2B.

Triathlon - Spanish number 1 Javier Gomez made his first high-profile appearance of the season, winning the European Championships in Portugal. Team GB's India Lee won the women's race.

The GB juniors had a pretty good day in their apparatus finals, with Regini-Moran winning gold on floor and silver on vault* / parallel bars; Fraser won gold on parallel bars, equal silver on high bar and bronze on pommel horse.

The ladies will get started on Wednesday - time to see if Ellie Downie can repeat her 59-point exploits in the team comps.

[* One of them was rated at 5.6D, compared to 6.0D for the others he did, in case you're wondering]

Natalie Powell won women's -78kg bronze in Guadalajara after getting the better of Gemma Gibbons in the quarters. Since she's also higher in the rankings, I'm sure the selectors will pick her for Rio.

Speaking of which, the qualification window is now closed - Team GB have 7 out of a possible 14 judo berths.

Been catching up on the Gymnastics as been busy all weekend. Russia's team score would have won the world title in Glasgow so agree that even with Max GB would have been pushed to beat them. I think they'll be disappointed not to have won a couple more Apparatus medals.

And more success for Team GB yesterday - SILVER!! for the Men's Team and BRONZE! again for Patrick Huston in the full European Champs. The women have been doing better over the past few years, but the men's team seem to be hitting form just when they need it . They just have to hold on and finish well in Ankara in two weeks.

Team GB Syncro Swimming squad named! (Well, both of them)

"Olivia Federici and Katie Clark have been announced as the two synchronised swimmers to represent Great Britain in this summer's Olympics in Rio."
