Big event of the weekend is the Triathlon World Series Final in Cozumel, Mexico. Live on the BBC Red Button on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Both the women's and the men's races are going to go to the tape.
Women's preview - Gwen Jorgensen v Fiona Duffy http://wts.triathlon.org/news/articl..._elite_preview Men's preview - Jonathan Brownlee v Mario Mola. Basically, any top three for Mola will give him the title. http://wts.triathlon.org/news/articl...ns_world_title |

Apparently Alistair Brownlee fancied a crack at the aquathlon for a change, so he entered the elite race (to the surprise of many)...and won.

The elite women's WTS is done and dusted...and at the end of it all, God Save The Queen was played twice.

A bit puzzled why the UK media ignore Duffy, she's just as British as the Brownlee Brothers.

Flora was fantastic last night. A superb swim got her into the front group for the cycling and she had two brilliant Brits for company, although I thought Lucy was going to dehydrate. Conttrast with Gwen whose group ended up being caught by the group behind. She couldn't bridge the gap. Flora was never broubled. The gap was huge before the run and huge at the end.
Fantastic Flora is Bermuda's best. |

Well I've never seen a men's GF like it! It's definitely one for the archives.

Glad Jonny is OK. Right decision by the officials not to DQ them, maybe if it had affected the result of the wWorld series crown they would have done but in the circumstances it was a common sense decision. The footage is all over social media so the sport is generating lots of publicity for good reasons with no petty officialdom stories accompanying it.
I think the Brownlees are getting as much coverage today if not more than when they went 1-2 in Rio. One sour note, Richard Murray not for the 1st time this season acted like a d*** clowning around at the finish whilst Jonny was being treated a couple of feet away. |

What a dramatic finish. What would Jonny do without his brother? At least it wasn't as serious as it could have been. It was th e last race of the season, so Jonny can have a good long rest.

I was watching the triathlon, last night, was hard to watch when you could see Jonny's body was failing him, it happened so suddenly as well. Incredibly moving the way Alistair helped him out. Just when you think you can't admire someone more, after Rio, they go and do something like this!

Next year's Gymnastics World Cup event will move from Glasgow, where it's been for a few years, to the O2 arena in London and will get major-league hype and promotion. Sky Sports will have the live rights, which unfortunately will restrict the audience.

British Swimming has named its team for the 2016 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m). Some of those named are Olympians, a few of whom seek consolation for not claiming Olympic hardware this summer.

Not so much consolation as a continuation of lottery funding, I think.

I would imagine world short course has very little bearing if at all in that regard.

Oh, I disagree, you have to show willing. Fortunately we didn't have many flops in Rio, but they are all there.
Funding is ultimately aimed at Olympic success and they will also judge on world champs proper where the competition is similar. If someone's funding status is at risk as they performed poorly in Rio then I just cannot see how world short course will make a blind bit of difference. |

Lots of hockey this weekend on BT Sports, but no British teams involved. They have full coverage of the Asian Champions' Trophy from Malaysia, all matches mid-morning to mid afternoon our time.

Also, the European Table Tennis Championships are underway in Budapest, Hungary. Preliminary and qualifying rounds going on already, final rounds live on Eurosport starting on Friday morning. These are the solo competitions, there is a team competition later in the year.

And indeed the few British swimmers who didn't perform in Rio suffer funding cuts.
Commonwealth champion Ross Murdoch has lost his elite British Swimming funding after missing out on a place in the Rio Olympic final... ...Fellow Rio Olympians Robbie Renwick and Keri-anne Payne have lost all funding. Whilst some of our youngsters get promoted. Olympic finallists Chloe Tutton, Max Litchfield and Molly Renshaw have all moved up from 'podium potential' funding to the elite level of support following impressive performances throughout this year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/swimming/37729458 https://www.britishswimming.org/news...rmance-squads/ |

We'll agree to disagree on this. Why would they take into account results at World Short Course which I presume are going to be weak fields this year? It would be like athletics taking into account results at World Indoors.
Funding is ultimately aimed at Olympic success and they will also judge on world champs proper where the competition is similar. If someone's funding status is at risk as they performed poorly in Rio then I just cannot see how world short course will make a blind bit of difference. The British team is sending a team of 16 to Short Course Worlds. The composition of the team reflects the importance and purpose British Swimming feels is appropriate for the meet. Most countries will probably do similar. It includes mostly youngsters with a few vets. https://www.britishswimming.org/news...ips-challenge/ |

Just in time for the pre-Tokyo lottery funding review. Team GB get their first Karate World Champion since 2004. Jordan Thomas has had to finance himself up to now.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/37817847 Hopefully pots of gold will be coming his way in the next couple of weeks. |
