BBC Triathlon preview. Seemingly Jonathan Brownlee is sitting out this leg, so he is obviously not really bothered about the overall this year.

End-of-year World Triathlon Series rankings are determined by your Grand Final position plus your 5 best performances from the other WTS or (no more than 2) Triathlon World Cup events - see details here. There are 9 WTS events before Chicago and he's done the first 3 (5th/1st/1st), so skipping Cape Town may not be detrimental to his overall position come the Grand Final.

Alistair, on the other hand, only has 6 events from which to earn ranking points before the Grand Final. If he misses 2 or more of them, he definitely won't win the overall this year.

UK team for the Swimming World Champs - 2-9 August - in Kazan named. Think this one is going to be getting more attention than it usually gets.

In spite of the crazy standards British Swimming set for WCh qualification (which only 8 competitors met AFAIK), they're sending a big squad anyway. I knew others would be added on, but not quite that many.

I count 31 on the BBC website, which must be a mistake because the federation list 30 on their site.

And a great result for Vicky Holland in the Cape Town triathlon, her first World Series win. Other good British performances were Helen Jenkins 5th and Emma Palent 10th. If we can ever get a full strength British team together in the same race at the same time there's going to be something special.

The BBC have Miley listed twice which is why you counted 31.

Glad to see that they included Barrett. He was a shade off at Nationals but the medley relay probably needs him if they are to contend for medals in Russia.

Yeah excellent result for her. Although obviously with Jorgensen (who's as close to unbeatable as it gets in this sport) and the very consistent Hewitt skipping this leg it opened the door a bit. Still a very good result. Now if Nan Stanford and Stimpson can get going in the later legs things will really be looking up. It's going to be a very interesting qualification for Rio.

Wasn't expecting that result from Vicky Holland but great stuff and nice to see Helen finish in a decent position after her injury problems.

It will certainly be a bun fight for Rio qualification. Looking forward to seeing Non Stanford back and she is the one person who I think could challenge Jorgensen. Given her long lay off though we may not see Non at her best this year so that might have to wait until 2016

So overall a good weekend for Britain's Olympic athletes. Double victories in the Cape Town triathlon. A gold for Giles Scott, plus a silver and bronze in the Hyeres Sailing World Cup, with 3 other top 5 places.

http://www.teamgb.com/news/scott-dom...ling-world-cup

And 2 golds for Jack Laugher at the Kazan World Diving Series. 1 bronze for Tonia Couch and another for Tonia Crouch/Sarah Barrow. Next event is in London at the weekend.

Apart from that, the only thing I can see this weekend on streaming is the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships from Minsk, starting tomorrow on Eurovision Sports Live.

British marathon open-water swimming team named for the World Championships in Kazan in August

"Keri-Anne Payne will lead the British charge for open water medals at this summer’s World Championships in Kazan after being named as part of the marathon swimming team.

The Olympic silver medallist from Beijing 2008 has a fine track record at the World Championships after taking 10km gold in 2009 and 2011.

She will be joined by Danielle Huskisson while the men’s team comprises Jack Burnell and Dan Fogg."

It's their first major meet, but they skipped last weekend's World Rowing Cup (Round I) in Bled.

Looks like the M8+ is their priority again - certainly in Ponzan, anyhow.

What I've found so far for the weekend

Triathlon World Series from Yokohama, Japan. A few of the leading names will be sitting this out, but for the men the battle will most probably be between Alastair Brownlee and Mario Mola.

http://wts.triathlon.org/news/articl...ma_mens_peview

For the women, the good news for Britain is that Non Stanford is back in action after a long injury. She will be up against the all-conquering Gwen Jorgensen though.

http://wts.triathlon.org/news/articl...omens_preview1

Live on BBC Red button in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Triathlon: Yokohama: Women's race, 02:00-04:20 & Men's race, 05:00-07:15, BBC Red Button (replay of both races back to back from 08:30, BBC Red Button)

Canoe Sprint World Cup

First World Cup of the season from Montemor-o-velho, Portugal.

As with the European Champs, Team GB are sending the Juniors to this one - the seniors will be back at the next World Cup in Germany. Not much coverage scheduled on British Eurosport, but live streaming on YouTube

Amidst scenes of indescribable delirious enthusiasm, the Netherlands have been chosen as hosts for the 2019 European Games, after Baku next month. They were, in fact, the only bidders.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/32766477

And I missed this announcement last month: BT Sport will be showing the Games from Baku this summer.

So GB complete the set in the World Taekwondo Champs - Gold for Bianca Walkden on Saturday, silver for Damon Sansum (beating Aaron Cook in the semis) and bronze for Rachelle Booth. As you have probably heard, Jade Jones went out early following an scoreboard malfunction meant she did not know she was not ahead at the end. 3 medals was their lottery target. Now onto the European Games in Baku.
