Now confused.

Assuming you have now switched to a Foxsat-HDR from the thread title.

The answer is

SD content copied to a EXT3 drive can be used on a computer booted into Linux, or a Windows computer with a EXT2/3 driver like EXT2FSD installed.

HD content is normally encrypted by the box, you cannot use this on anything else regardless of being able to read the disk. SD content can be used on pretty well any other kit.

The custom firmware available for the Foxsat-HDR allows.

Direct copying of content directly to a PC.

Future HD recordings free of encryption. As a result you can view HD and SD recordings without moving them from the Foxsat to most kit with a DLNA client capability (including Windows Media Player)

I can view recordings on my Foxsat-HDR directly using a HDR100S (HD subject to the above), no problem. (You need to convert the Foxsat recordings using the latest CF package first)

Sorry didn't make it clear currently have FoxsatHDR considering HDR1000S.

I have an external drive with SD stuff archived from Foxsat which I will want to play on the HDR1000S. Just wanted to make sure nothing has changed in the file format etc.

I do use the EXT2FSD driver on my PC as well. Maybe my external drive is EXT2 not 3 can't remember but works well on Foxsat.

Your archived SD footage will play fine on the HDR100S either.

A guess, from the original EXT3 drive (not tested this the HDR1000S supports NTFS natively) using USB (I guess you will need to rename the incompatible support files (..nts and .htm), or delete them.

From your PC with a EXT2/3 driver, and a DLNA server.

Direct from the Foxsat and a CF installed DLNA server.
