We've had the Humax box for about 4 years and have never been happy with it. It can be working perfectly fine for an hour or so or even in some cases a couple of days with a perfect picture on all channels but then you'll turn it on and there'll be nothing apart from the 'BAD OR NO SIGNAL' message or if you're lucky a picture on one or two channels on which you may get some interference. You then have to loosen the connections LNB 1 or LNB 2 and fiddle around with them to try and get a picture and when and if you do so there's no guarantee it'll last but as I say it may last a minute or a couple of days.
I have trimmed up the cables from the satellite dish into connectors LNB 1 & 2 so there shouldn't be a problem there but I'm thinking the problem is inside the box and has something to do with the connectors otherwise why would I get the picture back when jiggling them around. Obviously recordings are pot luck as well, you may get a whole or part of a recording.
At the end of our tether with this one I'm afraid any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like duff f connectors to me. Are they quite hard to unscrew from the coax cable (assuming they are the screw on type) ?

Agree with Graham, F connectors do come is several widths to fit different cable widths.
Sounds like they are not tight on the cable.

At the moment it's been working fine for nearly a whole day so I don't really want to 'disturb' anything at the moment. The next time the picture starts to go i'll check the tightness of the connectors and get back to you, thank you both very much for the replies it's much appreciated.

When you checked the connectors Stevieray did you notice any discolouring of the wires?

I was having the same problem as yourself, although it might not be the cause of your fault, it turned out water was getting into one of the cables and making it's way down to the connection points.

Picture still going strong so still been unable to check the tightness of the cable in the connectors, I've not seen any discolouration whenever I've checked them so don't think it will be that but thanks for the helpful suggestion.

When screwing f connectors onto box connections, be careful you are only turning the f connector head and not turning the barrel at the same time, as you could be unscrewing the cable as you connect f plug to box.
