Customers of the*BT*TV service have been*told that the operator*intends to*”close” their*original*silver*BTVision broadband*IPTV*box service. Owners of the related set top box devices will instead be offered an upgrade to the new*YouView*based STB kit “at no extra cost“, but you’ll have to re-contract both your TV and broadband for another 18 months first. The move is hardly a surprise and it would be easy to argue that the writing for this change has been on the wall ever since*BT*decided to get involved with*YouView*and launch a related product during late 2012. Meanwhile those who choose not to adopt the YouView+ box have been warned that the service will “stop working” by*30th June 2014.

This is probably a very good thing, however.... until BT start to realise that they are nowhere near completing fibre rollout yet, and you can't get BT Sport without fibre on YouView its pretty pointless.

What do all those people with BT Vision who have signed a 1 year contract to get BT Sports do?

Hi, this explains a little better http://www.seenit.co.uk/bt-to-switch...ision-service/

In essence the black boxes are unaffected.

If you disconnect your BT Vision box from the internet before you cancel /replace the box, I think the recording features should stay "alive", although obviously the OD features will not work. Have done this myself and still works fine, and I'm on TalkTalk now. Does anyone think they would keep the features alive anyway, as they are making people get YouView and extend contracts??
