Fondant Icing Recipes??
I would like to make small quantities of fondant icing in different colours to make simple cake decorations such as flowers. The small packs in shops are very expensive, and if you want a variety of colours you could end up spending a fortune.
Anyone have any good recipes for this? |

It is easy to make and has very few ingredients. Glycerine, icing sugar, glucose syrup, water and gelatine.

This is the recipe I use. I’m not a big fan of fondant because of the taste, but this tastes really good. I haven’t been able to find light corn syrup in the shops so I bought mine online. It’s fairly cheap. Apparently you can make your own corn syrup but I haven’t done that. The recipe is an American recipe but conversions can be found easily online.
1 16-oz tubs Marshmallow Fluff 1/3 cup Trex 1/8-1/4 cup light corn syrup (depends on humidity & temperature--if you don't put enough in now, you can add more later when kneading--messy, but fixable!) 1 tsp clear vanilla (or any other clear flavour of preference) 2 lbs icing sugar (sifted) 1) Cream together the marshmallow fluff, Trex, corn syrup and vanilla only using a KitchenAid-type mixer with the dough hook. Let it run until it's all smooth and the bubbles in the fluff are pretty much gone – it gets a shiny, silky look. 2) Add the icing sugar little by little. Towards the end of adding the sugar the mixer starts working really hard. When this happens you may want to then knead it by hand so you don’t blow up your mixer. I would freak if my Kitchenaid blew up! 3) Grease the counter top with Trex. Turn the fondant out onto the counter along with the last of the sugar and knead it until it is all smooth, maybe 10 minutes or so. 4) Put the fondant in a zplock bag and let rest on the counter overnight and then it's perfect. It really does have to rest for a minimum of 12 hours to hold together properly. 5) This recipe freezes well. It may just need some dusting of icing sugar when working with it so it isn’t sticky. |

Making fondant is a right chew on. Tesco do a kilo for 2 quid and it is ok for colouring, just let it rest before use.
