Which of the soaps would be still airing in the next 10 year or so and which will be cancelled first. Feel free to discuss.

If if continues to go in the downward spiral it is at the moment, Coronation Street won't.

Personally, I think they're is only few aspects to Hollyoaks which need improving (i.e. characters not being killed off every 3 weeks) but if the good actors leave & things worsen for them Hollyoaks won't either.

If EastEnders stays like this then I think it will go for loads more than 10 years! But if we have a SB or a LN or even the bad side of BK then that might last only about 10 years.

Emmerdale, however, is fine and on the right wave length and will continue for many years to come.

I think it would come as a major shock for any of them to go really, but I reckon Neighbours is in the most danger.

Neighbours survives in Australia pretty much only because of its popularity in the UK. When the next contract renewal thing with fremantle comes up, I think in 2016, I don't think Five will be willing to pay anywhere NEAR as much as they did when they first got it (300 million IIRC). When Five bought the rights from the BBC, Neighbours was a program watched by 5 million average, whereas now it's flittering just over/ under 1 million and without going back and checking all the ratings for this year, THIS WEEK it only scraped into channel 5's top 10. So it's popularity here seems to be dwindling too.

I suppose given what little attention it seems receive, Doctors might also come under threat at some point.

EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale will all still be here.

Hollyoaks is a tough one to call.

Aussie wise Home And Away is safe as houses. Neighbours I can't really call.

EastEnders, Emmerdale and Corrie will all be around in 10 years time
I can't see Hollyoaks being around though

Until very recently I had serious doubts EastEnders would still be on telly by the end of the decade. However, the recent announcement of a new set indicates that the BBC still have full confidence in the show and will continue to plough money into it. EastEnders is safe for at least another decade, I'd say.

Corrie and Emmerdale aren't going anywhere.

Hollyoaks, who knows? There's been rumours of Hollyoaks' death for years now, but it lives on. I think Hollyoaks, because of its limited appeal (and this is in no way a criticism) is able to 'reinvent' itself far easier than any of its rivals (it has a very high cast turnover, for instance) so I wouldn't be surprised if it survives in some form.

As someone else mentioned I reckon Neighbours is in most danger. It's basically only screened in Australia because the UK keeps it going, whereas H&A still rates well there.

I think EE, Corrie, ED and H&A are safe (especially given the latter's popularity in Oz).

But, I think it's very difficult to call with Neighbours and Hollyoaks.

Hollyoaks might suffer the same fate as Brookside and The Bill. (Don't know if The Bill could be classed as a soap though).

I think the big 3 (EE, Corrie, Emmerdale) will be fine as will H and A due to popularity in Oz.

Have to agree with others though that Neighbours is in trouble (a great shame as I love it) and HO is in danger of burning itself out like Brookie if it gets anymore OTT.

The big three. I don't see Hollyoaks surviving another decade.

Doctors will probably be fine. It may not get much 'attention' but it performs exceptionally well for it's timeslot. It's not trying to be some multi-million figure grabbing major primetime soap-opera, it's a daytime soap looking for a good daytime audience and it's always managed to attain that.

I could see both H&A and Neighbours throwing in the towel within the next decade.

I think Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Fair City and Home & Away are really the only certs.

I think Emmerdale, Eastenders and Coronation street will be safe for another decade. I don't watch Hollyoaks or the Oz soaps so can't comment.

There is absolutely zero chance that Corrie will be axed in the next ten years. They've just built a new set and it still has the most viewers. Sometimes the rolleyes smilie is really missed on here

Corrie and Emmerdale are here to stay for good IMO. Not sure about EE but it will still be around in 10 years time. I stopped watching it 15 years ago. Too much shouting.

I checked a few ratings from last week. It is the usual story in Australia for Home and Away and Neighbours: Home and Away rates strongly on Seven so is pretty safe. Neighbours has far lower figures but some nights it is the highest rating program on the digital multi channels. Neighbours is OK as long as Five in the UK pay enough to cover its production costs (which were tightened a few years ago).

As long as my EastEnders is still here I don't give a crappy crap crap about the other soaps, they can stay or go for all I care.

I would of thought Emmerdale was just as much at risk as EastEnders if not more so?

And EastEnders....£15million is being spent on a set upgrade. They are hardly going to spend that amount of money if they don't plan on keeping it for years to come.
EastEnders,Emmerdale and Corrie will all be here in 15 years time. There is No doubt about that.

Home & Away will still be here due to it being popular in Aus.

Doctors gets a 20-25% share at 1:45pm and has seen ratings over over 2 million this year. It cheap to make too and again is going no where any time soon.

Hollyoaks and Neighbours are the only soaps in any danger.

Doctors is cheap to make and fills 30mins weekday afternoons for much of the year. It's ratings are consistent and it takes more share then a lot of TV shows on prime-time TV. Outside of the News it's pretty much the biggest show on daytime TV and that's not bad going for a daytime show in it's 14th year.

You've put H&A as multichannel and Neighbours as free to air, rather than the other way around. But ya, H&A gets triple the ratings that Neighbours gets even though surprisingly H&A rates higher in Melbourne than Sydney despite it being a Sydney based show

Im not sure theres much factual basis for any predictions beyond 10 years never mind firm predictions of a shows existence being beyond doubt.

Confident 10 year predictions are reasonable to make but predictions 15-20 years ahead?? None of us have that kind of crystal ball to speak with confidence that far ahead to be honest.
