The Chase sponsored by the annoying implausable old diddies advertising yorkshire puddings...and since you're in Scotland it's also sponsored by double glazing so here's a second ad that you saw last ad break.
I can't think of any other show that has two sponsors. |

It really annoys me in soaps when people pretend to drink out of empty cups. It's so obviously empty. why can't they just half fill it with water, or is it too hard to expect actors to drink and act at the same time?

And because some smart arse would point out a continuity error because they edited two takes together.

That whole news cliche where they'll start a story with an attention-grabbing "fact", then after a pause say "..That's the view of a new report published today by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation" or whatever.
Why can't they just write it the simpler way round - "A report published today by XYZ claims that blah blah blah..."? I mean, OK, I suppose it is just simply to make people sit up and take notice more, but I'm so attuned to it these days I tend to shut off what they're saying because I know the old "That's the view of..." chestnut is going to come along any second

D.O.G.S - digital on-screen graphic
Pointless , not needed and annoying . there is plenty of time to spin your logo in adverts and in-between programmes. |

Advertising the next show at the end of a previous one, before it has actually finished. American TV is famous for this, but we do it too. It drives me insane because in the case of drama and comedy it alerts you to the fact that time is nearly up and makes you realise things are now going to wrap up which completely pulls you out of the story. Doctor Who famously did this a few years ago during a very intense conclusion with what was supposed to be an out-of-nowhere cliffhanger. Unfortunately the BBC decided to alert us to the fact that Any Dream Will Do was about to start by having a cartoon Graham Norton dance across the bottom of the screen. I believe there were widespread complaints about that.
Re-caps in the middle of something, showing us what we've literally just seen. Gameshows do this a lot - "earlier in the show, Julie lost £100" etc... - and Pointless ridiculously recaps the scores by reading them out from a giant screen despite the fact that contestants constantly have their score in front of them on big screens. This also goes for double-bills of dramas. Why do we need a recap of the first episode? We've literally just seen it. Here's a more serious one - the need of daytime TV or other lifestyle shows to trivialise serious issues in order to "keep it light". This Morning does this so much that when it's an issue that relates to yourself it can get quite offensive. I suffer from depression and once they did an item on it, read out a few genuine comments from viewers who suffer from it and then finished with some guy saying "I get depressed when I see my kids' Christmas lists LOL!" or something equally crass and insensitive, and everyone had a good laugh. It's inappropriate but the show feels uncomfortable without it, so it shouldn't tackle serious issues at all if it wants to keep things light. This is standard practice for This Morning, and The One Show, Loose Women and breakfast shows are all guilty of "making light" of things as well. |

To be fair Linus, I think the shows are made with recaps as they're presuming that they will be on each week.

News reports who go into the sport straight away instead of giving a warning, e.g. And now the sport news.
I tuned into watch the footy highlights on Sunday and just managed to turn over as she went from a war story to.... Wayne Rooney..... Luckily I didn't hear the result. I then tuned back in to see if it was finished only to discover the result of the F1 race! Which i'd recorded. |

Kind of TV but associated with message boards.
Discussions while a programme is running. I mean drama/serious/series where you need to pay attention to follow the plot and diaglogue. "Is any one watching?" and the thread goes on discussing the flow of the show but can also be discussing diferent aspects such as the actors and what they've been in before. Why are you discussing this when the show is on? WATCH IT! |

*LOUD MUSIC CUE - ''Millions of people are to die in the UK tomorrow...that's according to the health watchdog if measures aren't taken to contain Ebola'' Another irk is regional news having the main national headlines as their own, with no new light shed on it than what you've just seen 20 minutes ago... |

The ad break timings. I was watching 8 Out Of 10 Cats on Sky+ and about 38 minutes into the show they were on their second ad break. After that had finished, my Sky box said there were 6 minutes left but that was including the credits. In fact, as it turns out, the final part of the show was only 4 MINUTES!

all those- look up- fold arms- serious expression at the camera shots you get introducing the drivers on F1 or the "stars" of some reality shows...( makes them look like complete prats to me)
When the lineup of the football teams were being revealed to the viewers they showed a little video clip avatar of every single player folding their arms.

^ And he must hate the football on Sky Sports - when they do the line-ups before kick-off, they have the player taking a few steps forward and putting his arms behind his back. Then, when the second half starts, I swear they have the players looking down before looking at the camera.
Also - whoever it was at the BBC who decided that Tuesday would be a good day to start a new series of Pointless. |

Been said before, but I'll repeat it again!
Ad-breaks before they should be done! And Credit-Squeezing/Voice-overs during theme music at the end of a show - especially when it was a sad or poignant one! Why do we need to be told what is on next week - or whenever? We ALL have TV magazines or PVR's for goodness sake!!! If I want to switch channels - I WILL!! |

Trailers for the news. ITV have been doing this for years but now BBC have started doing it too. Totally unnecessary and highly annoying.

He's been sentenced for 5 years some of which is to be spent in jail. |
