I tend to agree. There will be those who claim there is no dolphin equivalent of Shakespeare, Beethoven or Einstein, but just you hang on a millennia or two and them dolphins'l be writing songs and prose about the good old days when they just used to play..

Thanks! I've seen it before, it's fantastic.

Sharks are incredibly intelligent and can recognise and remember optical illusions.

Bamboo sharks are very unassuming on the cognitive scale as far as I know - just what would a White shark or the wonderful, vast, and very friendly Manta ray (which has a massive brain) be capable off?

I'm toilet training my puppy, he gets a treat when he toilets outside. He's taken to doing a wee, sitting at my feet for a treat and five minutes later squatting but producing no wee and sitting at my feet again for a treat. They're not daft!

My dog can read car journeys really well. Certain places I visit she sleeps for the entire journey then suddenly a corner or a smell or a little something prompts her memory and up she gets all excited. I don't think she is unique as my last dog did the same.

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

Dogs are very smart - and science is showing all animals are capable of far more than we have previously given them credit for due to the fact that the research on animal cognition is still very much in it's infancy.

And remember this - animals in the wild are battling to survive every day so they have very little time for recreation or empathy.

just look at humans in that situation (and how incredibly savage we frequently become).

There seems to be no limit to those pesky corvid's incredible intellectual abilities.

Maniraptoran theropods still rule.

Here is some conclusive proof at last

Also note how many animals perished in the tsunami. Most fled to higher ground long before it struck.

That is simply magical.

Thank you so much for posting that.

The more I read about and see the amazing intelligence of corvids the more impressed I become. They must be a really serious contender for the smartest group of animals on earth.

And the terms 'bird-brain' and 'dinosaur' are still used as insults - we may have to rethink that bloody quickly.

Amazing creatures, yes rethink bird - brain and dinosaur. There's a Raven near the woods where I live and has started following me home, he keeps tapping on the window, (for food of course)! I wonder if he/she will bear me gifts, he/she loves being filmed I swear!! He's good at scaring the sparrowhawks away, so fearless , the other birds thinks he's a star.

That it wonderful - that raven sounds like a real character.

What a nice post to go offline to.

He is what a lovely colour he has, he looks navy blue in the sun(I think it's a he' pretty sure he his), it's breeding time for them and FOOD is number 1 ATM.. Nuts are very good for them, trouble is Mr Squirrel keeps hiding them as well, but he's too clever for the squirrels he's worked out, where they are hidden :cool .I wish we could get a Red squirrel....There should be a wildlife thread!!

I agree.

As for the squirrels as bright as they are they will be no match for the Raven's towering intellect.

It seems even the humble cockroach's intellect has been vastly underestimated - the crafty little sods displaying individual personalities and complex behaviour.

Which makes 'I'm a Celebrity' an even bigger pile of crap than I suspected.
