ITV could air a simulcast of BBC Breakfast (sans ads) and it would still not be good enough, because it's on ITV.

BBC Breakfast is the laziest show I know. It's just a simulcast of the BBC News channel but with a red sofa plonked in the middle of the studio!

Exactly. It was fine a few weeks ago, then they messed it up again. Why not just leave things how they were?

Ok so everything can be improved, goes with out saying. Why not write a coherent well worded letter addressed to the production team of GMB with your points. You are likely to get a written letter back, within about 14 days, I think it is.
Better that sounding unintelligent on a public forum, which will have little or no effect on the content, presenters, or design.

It's not actually - it is very different from the News channel output (something that should be readily apparent if you switch to the News Channel at 8:30)

And, being picky, it's the BBC one output that is simulcast on the News channel!

And I think that it is done in order to save money.

In its early days News 24 (as was) did its own breakfast show but as mossy says it was dropped on grounds of cost and Breakfast shown instead. Frankly there was very little difference between the two and it was unnecessary duplication.

It will be interesting to see how they cope with a major news story. That is about the only time I watch breakfast TV and like most people I go to BBC.

Does the ITV programme have the resources to handle a breaking major news story at that time of day and have they got the authority to continue through to 09:30h in those circumstances?

With the exception of Hawkins, Fletcher, Peters and Reid, everyone including the reporters and back room staff is associated with either GMTV or Daybreak or both.

It is my understanding that GMB has full access to itv local News resources plus STV and UTV and itv News (ITN), so any major story breaking during itv Breakfast (0600-0924), would be a mix of GMB presenters/reporters and itv News.

Public: adjective: relating to or involving people in general, rather than being restricted to a particular group of people.

Well if it happens some time soon, the "old lady dies" story and breaks in the very early morning, it'll be a big test for both breakfast shows.

There are more than two breakfast shows - Sunrise with Eamonn is by far the best of the early morning news shows.

GMB are already showing signs of GMTV, with their investigation promo airing on ITV. It's GMTV all over again, just in a decent set.

Still think it was a big mistake undoing the changes made from Sept 2010. GMB still stinks of GMTV.

Was just laughing about that with the missus. I loved how they were patting themselves on the back about it too. "We got him with a killer question". Erm, no you didn't, and now you sound like idiots.

On the whole though I rather like the show (not that I get the chance to watch it much), and I agree it's much better than the smug BBC equivalent. They need to bite the bullet though and get rid of the old lot. I'm sick of seeing the fallback characters - Ross King (urgh, why do they persist with this bloke?), Richard Arnold (nice enough chap I'm sure but no more) and Kate Garraway. Also, Andi Peters - it's not working. But the main 4 presenters are good and show is fine. Just much less of the silliness (political and celebrity) and we're on to a winner.

I couldn't agree more. I saw more than usual this morning and thought the mix of 4 presenters was fine. Time to move on from King, Arnold and especially Garraway regardless of any old chemistry with Ben. Let this be a new era.
