Rob Bryson is certainly funny enough but the games would need updating.

I do wonder if The Generation Game was of its time and could look out of place now. The games like marching with soldiers seem a bit naff now.

Update the games that's the main thing.

What made GG such a huge hit in the seventies was that the contestants were, by and large (and I don't want this to appear derogatory), super-ordinary. So that every task attempted, from cake baking to marching up and down to acting, was by people not only clueless but supremely awkward with it. The gave Bruce ample opportunity to gently take the rise out of them and it worked brilliantly.

Miranda is an interesting prospect but they would have to get the right contestants to even start to make it work.

Some of the games do look a bit dated in this era of big studios, flashy graphics, question and answer quizzes etc.

Performing a sketch from a play or icing a cake etc, will that sort of thing cut it in 2014?

Having said that, it'll probably do well on name recognition alone. The pensioners will lap it up.

The dedicated thread about this is funny. Started by Samuel in over the top style, almost jumping up and down as if the BBC have just announced the biggest show ever, not just some Saturday night game show. And then the thread immediately in typical DS style gets a bucket of sick thrown over it, as all subsequent posters think it is the worst idea ever!
Yes I saw that. I don't think it was quite the reaction he was hoping for. And I like that little quote of yours 'bucket of sick thrown over it'

Potential for a very high +1 figure on BGT I suspect - last weeks was rather high considering the late start so a 7pm start will make it even more significant.
Which therefore should be included when lookiing at the total figure without comparison to BBC1, which I suspect it won't by one.

It was a good episode, super magician, but let down by a silly ending. Stupid David. I bet Simon Cowell regrets the golden buzzer now.

Really? I think he'll be enjoying the publicity. If he hated David doing it it would have been buried in the middle of an episode and quickly followed by a good act (or an even worse act to make David's decision look better).

Really can't predict where BGT will end up. The general concensus from both lovers and haters are that it'll take a hit, and I assume the 2nd episode is always down on the first, but I do wonder if we might be surprised tomorrow.

It's all very well saying it's Easters and shows take a hit but frankly the content isn't really there to pull in the mass audiences. Despite more people being away than at Christmas and the weather tempting people outdoors I'd have thought actually there is still quite a captive audience at Easter - arguably more so than at Christmas when they're not so busy so have time to sit down and watch things.

The Sun today says research shows viewers are already bored by EE's Who Killed Lucy storyline and are incredulous they will have to wait until February to find the answer. I wonder if this is going to backfire on the BBC in a big way ?

So the viewers that they asked are bored already by a storyline which started at the end of fridays episode ? It does amaze me sometimes with lengths the newspapers go to to create a headline out of nothing.

I don't think that this is going to backfire for the BBC, but the ratings for it will not be what everyone will be expecting. I would imagine that it will gain possibly 7.5 million for Monday's episode and then hover around 7 for the rest of the week. If the episodes are as good as some have said, then the interest will be there. Of course on here, there will be certain posters jumping up and down at the low ratings for EE big story, who will over predict hours before they are released, so that they can they do the 'told you so' dance.

You wouldn't think the BBC's charter is up for renewal, would you? Typical Murdoch anti-BBC trash. And what have they based that on? 6.4m tuning in on Friday but neglecting to mention the small gap between itself and the beloved Coronation Street that-can-do-no-wrong? What about Emmerdale with its low figures? I bet that's conveniently forgotten about too.

Agreed but I can see viewer fatigue setting in if they try to sustain this for nearly a year.

I don't want to turn this into a soap conversation but just to point out that EastEnders viewers had to wait until 1988 for the original Reg Cox murder storyline in 1985 to be resolved with Nick Cotton confessing in prison. Viewers had a lot of patience in the 1980s.

However, "who/what killed Lucy" is only a small part of the much larger storyline. Far too many people seem to be thinking that Lucy dying WAS the story whereas in fact it was only the catalyst for a much larger story which will play out over the next 10 months or so.

Lucy Beale's murder won't be the only storyline playing out though. It will most likely take a back seat mid summer before picking up again in the autumn to build hype for the eventual reveal.

People seem to be under the impression the Lucy story is the only thing EE will be doing.

Look at Sharongate. That storyline was set in motion the day Grant and Phil arrived in 1990. It was 1994 before it reached its climax.

UK TV Ratings ‏@TVRatingsUK 15s
Britain's @GotTalent continued to rule the Saturday night ratings with 9.31m/45.4% watching yesterday's edition. #BGT

Oh dear, that includes +1 too. Its worst 2nd episode rating in 7 years. Lowest share since 2008 too. Might've been in the low 8's excluding +1.

Thought BGT would rate like that. The slot is awful, and it being Easter weekend will only have compounded that. Strong share, but that doesn't make much difference to ITV.

A really disappointing slide. Not unexpected with the timeslot, but with +1 and the ability to record and watch later, it doesn't totally excuse it for me.

45% is massive at 9.3 million viewers. Can't see how ITV will be disappointed at that.

Cant blame the slot on the relatively low share. That is its lowest 2nd episode share [excl +1] since 2008.

That share is huge though. They should really move it to 8pm.
