Yes, I saw! Bizarre! I don't think you or I were offensive at all in response to Robbie's post. It was light hearted and basically saying welcome back! I wonder why it was removed.......the mind boggles.

I typed out a long rambling comment on yesterday's ratings on my phone but can't post them for some reason. Think DS were playing about with the thread.

I'll keep it short. BGT good but relatively low due to later finishing time and people getting fed up of waiting for it during the football analysis. The football did very well and will be missed. BBC One low but solid though it shows the lack of imagination that bleeds through the rest of the schedule (and yes other channels do it too as it feels like the BBC cannot be criticised on here anymore without balancing it out).

You are right actually - seems a bit wierd.

One reply to Samuel was OTT though.

No. We are just demonstrating that if people want to watch TV, they will. Regardless of the weather. The Andy Murray comment was used to highlight that even in 30+ degrees heat, the TV will rule our lives. If it's hot on the day of the BGT final, I can't see it being terrible for the BGT ratings. People will still watch it. That was my point.

This is the first Spring season in years that has no big hitters for the BBC. Their Spring schedule, whilst steady and safe, is uninspiring and lacklustre. They've had Doctor Who or a talent show format since 2005 (apart from 2009 where Who was replaced with Robin Hood). The lack of variety this Spring is considerably noticeable.

Yes the numbers are down but are quite consistent. BGT is a show that will more than likely out last most entertainment shows.”

Well said. Seriously Samuel haven't you got something better to be doing with your life - I'm sure nobody on their deathbed ever wishes they bashed ITV a little bit more.

Fantastic ratings for the FA Cup final and Britains Got Talent!

Wait till Tumble hits our screens. You might be pining for the return of bland mediocrity.

Don't even joke...... I think my TV may go into hibernation until Autumn. I can't stand sport and what the main channels have lined up for us feels me with utter disappointment. Might start writing my next book of poetry.

BBC ratings last night were poor as they were caught in a 'perfect storm'. Good numbers for ITV although they had to be accompanied by a lot of ITV trolling on here which I let go because its a nice day and I cant be bothered.

In reality, not everypone likes being out in the heat for hours upon end, and in the evening will still want to unwind infront of the telly! If there is event tv on, then people will watch it, and despite Samuel hoping and praying BGT gets 2.5m viewers, viewers still stick with this show like poo on a sheeps bottom. There must be something mesmerising that viewers like about BGT, because it is going to be around for at least another 75 years. Wowser at the FA Cup ratings. Fair play to ITV, they had a good day yesterday, and well deserved. Their schedule was a blinder!”

Yesterdays schedule was extremely rare though and didn't require any skill in putting it together if we are being honest. ITV had the contract to a substantial annual event and broadcast it-following it with arguably its biggest show. Had to be win win and it was.
Your right people do watch events and feel the need to be part of something if it has a status and will watch-but even then I think the figures would have been even higher yesterday if it had rained constantly all day. Weather does break peoples routines if its nice(and more than ever I think people like to do their own thing rather than be a slave to the tv)-especially for bog standard schedules.

MOSSY!!!! I've only just stopped having recurring nightmares about an evil giant robotic hare! Now you've put that thought in my head again. I'm going to sue you for every single Doctor Who DVD boxed set you've got, you mark my words!

I can see that being a sleeper hit for the BBC. I have to admit the gymnastics section on The Games and on Sport Relief this year were entertaining enough though I guess the big question is whether it could be sustained over a number of weeks.

True, but I cant help wondering how The Voice/Dr Who etc would have fared yesterday in the face of those big numbers-especially with TVUK being presumably post audition. Very low probably-leading to about 30 extra pages on this thread . TVUK and Dr Who are both well away from this quarter imo-there is too much else going on. Try something new maybe or stick with the old dependables.

Yes, I agree. Goes to prove that those at the BBC probably know what they're doing compared to me!

The BBC's strategy is to have their big shows airing in the Christmas and Winter season, when ratings are generally higher and there is more press interest in the ratings. Now we're in Spring, they dont have to spend as much money on programs and dont really need to air many big hitters. MasterChef does a solid job shoring up 4-5m viewers and the factual shows at 9pm are doing fine, as well as the two dramas. Come Summer, they will have big sporting events which will attract a significant number of viewers. Then in Autumn, some of the big guns will return. The bbc strategy is working very well and has resulted in their share being up year on year.

Lets Get Ready To Tumble will be a hit when that launches in September. It has all the makings of a success. Will involve two well liked Olympians, and sees top stars learning a new trade in one of the most dangerous and gruelling shows on television. It'll be promoted a lot too and has mainstream appeal, I've jotted it down to be a ratings success.

You could always get Netflix? I don't like the football either, though I do have a soft spot for Wimbledon and will watch some of that. Otherwise I've got plenty of books bought on my Kindle that I need to get through this summer!

No surprises last night. ITV had a brilliant night as expected. BBC One did poorly, though I would give The Guess List another shot at a series as I think there's potential there.

It's a commercial approach in a way and in concerns me slightly as it means there is a severe lack of quality across the spectrum now, rather than the BBC covering the pitfalls of commercial networks. Going by the above it means we're going to have filler across the board and then big hitters across the board. If the BBC aired some big hitters in the spring/summer it would cover this lack of quality.

Of course, it's not all like this with the BBC launching Happy Valley and Quirky plus From Here to There and The Crimson Field. But in many other slots it is still a case of minimum effort for maximum return.

Just put him on ignore. You're giving the WUM what he wants by rising to his ramblings. That will annoy him more - by replying it gives him even more of an excuse to reply with even more ITV bashing bs.
