Why on earth would they invest on Tuesdays when their bigger priorities will be to get good audiences post-Coro or post-EmFarm on Wednesday to Fridays. Tuesdays will simply have loads of crap filler, factual shows and niche documentaries. No significant investment there. All the stuff in Broadcast blaming the Champions League for Itvs tuesday night problems is a load of bullshit. Itv had the Champions league on Wednesdays for three years between 2009-2012, their Tuesday night schedule was still crap even though there were no football interuptions. It wont be any different once they finally lose the Champions league. The bbc will simply get stronger on Tuesdays as the only thing Itv had which rated well on tuesdays was champions league!”

ITV will spend some, not all. They have said that.

Suppose for instance they save £50million a year from the Champions league. They will probably save a lot of that for the shareholders. Maybe actually invest £30m of that £50m into the programming schedules, which will be split about 30% Wednesdays, 30% Thursdays, 30% Fridays and 10% Tuesdays. Trust me, Itv arent going to suddenly air dramas on Tuesdays once the CL has gone. It'll be year round factual, fact ent formats, repeats and cheap docos. This is how it'll work out, mark my words.

Broadchurch series 2 casts Torchwood's Eve Myles, Marianne Jean-Baptiste

http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press...h#.U3zdZij4Liw

Very strong cast again for Broadchurch. Should they replicate the strength of series 1, I can see Broadchurch growing again to become and 8million+ overnight drama, of which I suspect ITV ay push for another series. This is event drama that doesn't come along very often.

Scott and Bailey isnt as good as Happy Valley. Thats why every series it launches relatively high but then drops throughout the series, rather than remaining stable. Its also lost viewers series by series:

Series 1 avg 5.9m
Series 2 avg 5.3m
Series 3 avg 4.8m

The problem is it's very northern based and female friendly, every episode has to have a moral of the story thing saying how amazing females are and how awful men can be. Quite repetitive.

Unless you are employed by ITV I don't think we can really trust your statements. Not long ago you said they're cutting back in drama, and since that bold statement yu kept banging on about well they're potentially going to commission two 13 episode fantasy dramas and a year round police drama.

They won't go overboard on Tuesday's with programming, but the new Police drama could end up at 8pm in that slot.

I think Scott & Bailey has been quite raw at times with plenty of violence and shocks - when one of them was stabbed for instance.

They have been cutting back on dramas this year. When i said theyre cutting back even more on drama thats in 2015 pre-Champoins league cut off point. After that in 2016, of course some of that money will be reinvested into drama and the drama number will go up slightly. Trust me H of De Vil, Itv isnt going to launch the 8pm police drama on Tuesdays unless theyre asking for trouble. It will launch on Wednesdays at 8pm post Coro oap-boosting lead-in. Simple as, any broadcaster would do that. You wouldnt launch any big project in the Tuesday night death slot or Friday night graveyard shift - it will go on Wednesdays.

Oh yeah I know, but Happy Valley feels more real since its set over 6 days and featuring the same storyline. Scott and Bailey has different stories each episode.

Scott & Bailey is not my favourite drama but it has hit some highs and will do very well when it returns and I will probably watch it - although Sally Wainwright will not be writing any of it this time.

Thats true. Sally Wainwright has quit Scott and Bailey, now concentrating on her BBC projects. So fans of her style of writing may not like the new writers coming in. Especially as one of the new writers is an ex-Coro actor who has no previous experience of writing for a drama.

Great for Happy Valley too. It benefitted slightly from the EE lead-in so even more incentive for the Beeb to move EE to 8pm if Itv schedule hour long EmFarms. Happy Valley has been drama hit of the year statisitically. I had a feeling it would rate well, these kind of rural police dramas normally do. It's got some well known actors too which helps. Sarah Lancashire has moved onto bigger and better things since leaving Coro, now a loyal part of the BBC family.”

A few things here. Firstly it's called Emmerdale - not EmFarm and it's Coronation Street not Coro. Can you please grow up and call them by there actual names. Why are you so obsessed with BBC denting the ITV soaps as well?! Your biasedness really can be quite unbearable at times.

It's surprising that the BBC shifted EE to 8pm and Holby City to Thursday and ditched the Friday EastEnders. I sometimes wonder if this was all pre-planned between ITV/BBC as it seems quite drastic when they've never cared before. And like someone said - these clashes have been happening for 10-YEARS so it's hardly new news.

You've conveniently quoted the overnight ratings, wonder why...

2011 - 7.69m (27.2%) +1.8m
2012 - 6.94m (23.8%) +1.6m
2013 - 6.90m (25.3%) +2.1m

Obviously you've painted a much worse picture than what the situation actually is.

But for the first time in a long time the BBC seem to realise that to build EastEnders back up again, clashes don't help. It was different a few years back when EastEnders was stronger, it isn't now. This is much better for EastEnders than getting dented and losing momentum.

Although you could argue that EE is stronger now and ED would probably be dented more and be worse off - although that would not help EE I agree.

Too soon to risk it. No point doing fairly well in a clash when you can do really well avoiding a clash.

Although to be fair they have only tried that once with a big story running - no guarantee it would work every time especially with a rountine episode.

Very impressed with that rating for EastEnders, especially as it started and ended just over two minutes early.

Emmerdale has a massive advantage with a 7-8pm episode in any clash because it starts half an hour before its rival, and swallows up the entire EastEnders slot. That's a big difference to Strictly overlapping a 2hr+ Factor by twenty minutes, or Talent overlapping a 1hr+ Voice by ten minutes.

But I think just leaving EastEnders there for clashes hurt it in the long run. Even a regular episode would be higher if it avoided a clash. EastEnders wasn't protected enough when it was doing badly in my view. It all added to the negative press and low morale on the programme at the time.

Fantastic, brilliant rating for Happy Valley and it really does deserve every viewer. It's a well written drama with some great characters and a very good cast of actors. Sarah Lancashire is a class act.

Thsoe timeshifts are wrong. My overnights dont include the repeat, youre officials do. Also series 1 and 2 werent shown in Scotland, series 3 was. So its actually declined more than those officials state in reality as the 2011 and 2012 officials are not proper.

I agree it doesn't matter now, if Wainwright wants to do another series she'll get one*, but any dip next week would affect the following week and it would be shame for not to end on a high, ratings-wise.

*Do we think there's scope for a second series? Although if ITV/Chibnall can get one out of Broadchurch then BBC/Wainwright can get one of out of this. It all depends on how it ends though.”

It would be easy to write a cliffhanger for the series and continue but we dont know if thats how it has been conceived or not.

When did Rebecca Arlington become a Loose Women presenter? This is the programme that is going to deal with more current affairs topics?

Has it improved in the ratings compared to last year?

No, Loose Women ratings have plumetted the last few years. Some recent episodes have rated as low as only 700,000 viewers - beaten almost 3 to 1 by the BBC News at One.

If some have rated as low as 700,000, Based on your usual accuracy, that presumably means an average of 900,000 then.

Cylon6, I don't know why you asked, surely you know everything on ITV is down by every possible measure and every show is a lost cause.

Talking about Happy Valley. I notice the reception here is quite different to Broadchurch, when that was on air we had repeated down playing of the rating, negative comments, certain people calling it Bored Church, viewers only watching because it was on after Corrie or because BBC1 had rolled over. Certain posters who post more than others unable to accept that ITV were actually airing a popular programme.

Being beaten by Bargain Hunt too last time I looked. Loose Women is a magazine show in the wring timeslot. Should be on at least one hour after This Morning finishes.
