If all else fails start a plus 1 argument.... How boring. Scott and Bailey has been largely stable the last two series in the officials as more people chose to time shift following the move to Wednesday night.

Why does everything have to be a competition anyway? Both dramas do really well and I watch and enjoy both, no one is forced to choose!!

False.

She's still Executive Producer, as is Nicola Schindler.

Amelia Bullmore is writing 50% of the episodes (4 out of 8). She's previously written stand-alone episodes of the second and third series, which I remember being well received.

From what I remember of her two episodes last year there was no deterioration in quality, quite the opposite - as she didn't allow herself to get tied down in backstories etc. I remember people on these forums saying she was a better writer for the series than Wainwright!

False.

You mean Lee Warburton I presume, who has worked as part of the creative team on shows like Wire in the Blood and Shameless, as storyline planner and script editor? He previous wrote a sitcom pilot for Red Productions who produce Scott & Bailey so clearly they like elements of his writing.

He's also written for Russell T Davies' Banana.

Well, obviously I was talking about her quitting writing for the show.

He hasnt written for any drama which has yet aired on tv. Hes basically a complete newcomer to writing for a mainstream drama. He may have been 'part of a creative team' but thats different to being a writer specifically - he has not written for any dramas which have aired in the past.

Think Paul O Grady could work instead of Loose Women. Can't be a nicer alternative to the news and it may rate better then it does now at 17:00.

“Cylon6, I don't know why you asked, surely you know everything on ITV is down by every possible measure and every show is a lost cause.”

This is so true!

When you look at The Chase, Corrie, Britain's Got Talent, I'm A Celebrity, Saturday Night Takeaway, Downton, Broadchurch, Monday crime dramas, Long Lost Family, For The Love Of Dogs and 8 BAFTAs is there really anything for ITV to shout about?

“Talking about Happy Valley. I notice the reception here is quite different to Broadchurch, when that was on air we had repeated down playing of the rating, negative comments, certain people calling it Bored Church, viewers only watching because it was on after Corrie or because BBC1 had rolled over. Certain posters who post more than others unable to accept that ITV were actually airing a popular programme.”

Happy Valley is excellent, Broadchurch is excellent and a phenomenon. Old people watch Happy Valley because the BBC1 audience loves violence with their Horlicks. And people only watched Broadchurch because there was a beach in it

Something like that!

But ignoring the fact she still has the largest input to the course of the series.

He's worked on two popular mainstream dramas. Just because he hasn't any writers credits on IMDB doesn't mean you can discount his input He's obviously done writers workshops and he's submitted original scripts so clearly Red Production Company have seen something in him. It's not as if you can get job in TV writing by sending in an application on the back of a fag packet.

Also, writing newcomer Chris Lunt did alright with Prey didn't he? I mean in terms of overall success. So why disparage Lee Warburton?

Dominic Mitchell is a new writer. In The Flesh was his first commission and he is now the owner of two BAFTAs for it. New writers can be good or bad...much like established writers.

Let's just wait and see what they can do first. They wouldn't be taken on unless 'the powers that be' saw talent in them.

But look how crap the ratings are for In The Flesh, less than 350k for most of its recent episodes! Awful for a first run drama.People make tv shows primarily for the viewers, not the critics. Dominic Mitchell has failed in creating a drama which appeals to viewers at home.

Is Happy Valley a potentially returning series or a one-off. BBC1 seem to be the king of Tuesday night drama now - seem to have a much better hit rate there than on Sundays or Thursdays, thanks in part surely to ITV giving up.

In news further afield Ten have finally given up on Wake Up, axing it along with it's early, morning and late evening news bulletins and axing 150 staff - it seems to be more about budget than ratings, but without one they don't have the other.

Series 3 - 4.85m/6.38m, 5.19m/6.90m (1.53m/1.71m)

While series 2 and 3 was down from series 1, they were both consistent in terms of series averages. So does this put the argument to bed?

Spent nearly an hour digging these ratings up, I deserve a medal (or an alcoholic drink!)

Very strong cast again for Broadchurch. Should they replicate the strength of series 1, I can see Broadchurch growing again to become and 8million+ overnight drama, of which I suspect ITV ay push for another series. This is event drama that doesn't come along very often.”

The problem with these "event" dramas is they stop being an event once the first series ends. There will be such huge expectations for series 2, that unless the storyline is totally different, will be compared to the first. A successful event series can sometimes be the nooce around the second series' neck. Happy Valley is a similar scenario.

But series 2 average doesnt include Scotland, series 3 does. So its not a fair comparison to make in the first place. Series 3 is actually down more than those officials suggest among viewers in England and Wales.

Just saying, a thank you would be nice for digging the ratings up (MEOW!)

And? I can only provide people with the available figures. The way I see it Scott and Bailey is a success for ITV. Any drama that pulls in consistent figures of 4-6 million in both overnights and officials is a success no matter what channel it is on.

Yet again, bias towards a television channel/broadcaster is baffling. There's more to life than television and ratings.

I'll say thank you!

And I doubt Scottish viewers actually accounted to that much in the grand scheme of things, not like they would have added 500k?

Yeah probably wouldn't have added much to the final figure(s).

QI's Alan Davies is on board for all new The Dog Rescuers on Channel 5. Also extended to one hour for this second series and moved to 8PM after performing strongly at 7:30PM. Starts Tuesday 3rd June.

As mentioned Big Brother: Power Trip launches over two nights on Thursday 5th June and Friday 6th June at 9PM with coverage all the way through to midnight both nights.

Stand By Your Man is currently unscheduled and will likely now launch in w/c 7th June.

Do you have to make out in every single post that everyone is bashing ITV? It's becoming extremely tedious. You are seeing things that aren't there.

SamuelW. The officials would have stripped Scotland out for series 1 and 2, as they do for BBC shows...

To claim that the officials are wrong though is frankly laughable.

I can understand why some might have though Broadchurch was boring. I actually felt very uncomfortable about the storyline, it is horrid to hear of child murders on the News let alone watch it as a form of entertainment...........it was slightly formulaic to begin with. But then, once it got going, it got going big time! Twists and turns all over the shop. Happy Valley on the other hand started out as Last Tango in halifax in a police uniform - which immediately grabbed the viewer and then swiftly morphed into what is for me, the most gripping TV thriller I've seen for many years. It isn't better than Broadchurch, it's incomparable, but in my opinion, it's far more gripping - I can't take my eyes off it.

It would just be nice to see some praise for BBC One from him - Happy Valley did well with its rating last night and One had a good night overall.

I was meaning to ask Dancc, do you know any ratings for recent airings of The Wright Stuff? Just wondering how the extended editions are doing - I know this is the last week of extended shows, but they may make it a more permanent thing if it's not done too badly in numbers. I love the show and watch most days.
