About the affair on his pregnant sister, her threat to tell Carla everything (Rob didn't know Peter had confessed at the same time!) and her threatening to send him back to jail which we've seen in past episodes was not good for him. And the shock came (for me anyway) with him actually meaning to kill her on the cobbles, as apposed to throwing/pushing her back so she fell accidentally over the edge.

The murder scene tonight was not publicised anywhere.

Anyway, we're never going to all agree but I've found the week cracking and intensely done. The best set of BGT Corrie eps we've had IMO other than the Underworld siege but they stopped after IIRC the Tuesday episode due to the shootings in Cumbria.

Not very good, the content isn't heading in the right direction for my liking, there has already been a slight shift away from a serious news agenda, but I'm not convinced if if did go more newsy if it would actually just turn viewers off and not gain anyone. In fact that is what seems to have happened. Remember people need a reason to turn off of Breakfast not just a reason to turn on GMB.

There is only one viewpoint in this forum and that is that lots of serious news is good, and the opposite is bad. I'm not sure everyone in the real world thinks that though. If ITV ran hard news we all know it'd probably get about 100k. It is like when people say they don't want joke acts on The X Factor, but then complain it is boring when there isn't any. What people say they want and what they actually want are two different things.

It needs to be restructured out of Daytime and into its own department in my opinion. You can't have the same person in charge of GMB and Loose Women. When ITV bought GMTV they should have kept it as a separate operation.

Bear in mind every relaunch has lost viewers, they would do best keeping it however low it goes, because its replacement would be lower. It's the pressure to axe it and change everything that has got them where they are now.

A load of posts saying that ITV should give up, and that they never learn aren't helpful. Not entirely sure what giving up would actually consist of considering it isnt just a drama that they can drop and replace with another one. Repeats of The Chase would probably also only get 100k and wouldnt be allowed in the terms of the licence anyway. The lessons they need to learn aren't that clear as most here wouldn't watch ITV Breakfast whatever it looked like.

The trouble is, ITV can't win this battle. If they try and get newsier it becomes a commercial version of BBC Breakfast. If they get more showbiz then they get accused of dumbing down. The only sensible thing ITV can do is to cease with the News format altogether, What works? Lorraine. Make Lorraine go from 7.30am until 9.25pm. I'm sure they could find things to fit into a two hour show. The Morning News could run from 6.00am until 7.30am. At least by doing this viewers will know what they are getting, it would be a genuine alternative to Breakfast and ITV will have a morning show that viewers who don't want a News Heavy programme in the morning will willingly tune in for. I can't blame ITV for trying to find a successful format, but it really isn't worth them to continue trying.

I liked Vicious, but there were many more who didn't.

The viewpoint of this thread about GMB is that BBC Breakfast does news. Why make the alternative newsier to compete? Be different. Be a magazine show. That is what TVAM and GMTV were doing successfully in their glory periods when they were doing well. But Breakfast isn't just news. They do a few lighter features. The people that don't watch Breakfast aren't interested in mainly news and on a separate note that goes for Loose Women too.

Me too, It was very funny (possibly because I saw a little too much of myself in it :P) Any news on if the Second Series is being filmed anytime soon, I think its due Q1 next year isn't it?

Vicious worked for me because it was not pretentious. It didn't pretend to be sophisticated, it was just good, old fashioned sitcom comedy. I was pleased to see a new, orginal sitcom on ITV after many years without any.

I read that Derek Jacobi is busy filming Last Tango in Halifax and Ian McKellern is ready to start filming in October. So an autumn filming for Q1 as you say. Perhaps a comedy double bill with BoaF at 9pm and Vicious at 9.30pm.

Funny how Hollyoaks has seen no bump since winning Best soap. People call EastEnders depressing but all those oaks clips just looked like Murder and heartbreak throughout.

Nice to see Doctors getting a well deserved Bump yesterday with a brilliant episode and a very hard hitting storyline.

Strange seeing 5m+ watching EastEnders at 7:30 but then turning over at 8:00pm and returning at 9:00pm. Is Holby really that bad atm? (Not seen it in a few weeks)

What turns me off as a viewer to Holby is how the staff are so damn nasty to each other. I'd hope hospitals aren't really like that. It loses its realism for me.

I thought Corrie was great tonight. I think the reason for the dislike here is because Stuart Blackburn's name was on the credits.

The thing with Blackburn is that he's terribly inconsistent. If he produced episodes of similar quality to this week regularly then no one would have a problem with him. It's just the months of build up to get to this point that's tedious, and indeed it sort of dampens the ratings potential if there's no momentum.

Hopefully with the delayed filming means they have more time to spend on a quality script.

Or stay with what they had in Daybreak, not spend a fortune on what now appears to be an overrated presenter from another broadcaster, save money by not launching a new studio set, graphics etc, and simply tweak if necessary.

But ITV, in their wisdom, seem to have spent quite chunk of money and have actually lost and/or alienated erstwhile Daybreak viewers, as well as a proportion of the additional viewers who watched the launch show (and who have now dwindled away)

But doesn't news have to be an integral part of the programme from a franchise point of view ? Perhaps they should persuade OFCOM there are adequate news programmes on the BBC, Sky and elsewhere and they should try a totally different format. OFCOM usually roll over when ITV calls.

The thing is, like it or not, the news formula that Daybreak had seemed to be popular with 600,000 - 700,000 viewers (they liked the soft news, showbiz and other lighter elements), and it's been said before that the franchise was profitable. Having seen that a change away from that format has not increased viewers (in fact, the opposite seems to be happening), why not simply accept reality. No need to go to Ofcom (although I accept that they would probably roll over, just as they have done with commercial radio).

I'm sure that's happened before, with the news at midnight. They might even put some headlines on during half time of the football. An interesting line-up on both channels that night, BBC1 look fairly solid opposite with a new episode of Pointless, certainly stronger than they are this Saturday.


I have no idea why Soccer Aid is every other year, everyone must surely forget it happens. That scheduling is pretty poor for Soccer Aid, actually, the Grand Prix will take a lot of male viewers away, they'd have been better off doing it this Sunday.


No, the World Cup doesn't begin until 12th June. Presumably the BBC1 schedule that Wednesday is the same as it was last night with Watchdog and the last episode of Del Boys And Dealers. I think it looks pretty straightforward, that schedule.


Well, yes, but obviously we can't give it credit for beating the usual Tuesday line-up because it was Britain's Got Talent and Corrie, not a load of crappy factual shows. What it clearly illustrates is that Tuesday isn't the problem, the ITV schedule is, based entirely on their inexplicable decision never to show anything half decent there. BBC1 wasn't even that different to usual so again you can hardly say it's because BBC1 are untouchable on that night. Put Doc Martin or something on a Tuesday and you coud turn the night around immediately. People aren't watching ITV because it's Tuesday, they're not watching it because it shows a load of rubbish that night.


Presumably the idea is that they will chivvy viewers straight from the football to Emmerdale and then everyone will miss 'stEnders, which is fair enough, but surely any kind of momentum is then rather stymied by the news. So it ends up looking like ITV have just done it to irritate viewers.

I think you'll be very disappointed if you want the Beeb to keep 'stEnders away from any football competition, it'll be shown opposite it most nights as the most logical football alternative for viewers.


I find that very hard to believe, given how well ITV did at every other hour of the day. And that they were being beaten by The Big Breakfast anyway.

I was just about to post my own thoughts on GMB but this post sums it up for me. A complete revamp which they knew has not worked in the past to get fewer viewers and now be left with the having to ride it out and make tweaks as necessary well as said above they could have done that with Daybreak and kept the audience it had.

ugggh World Cup not even started yet and we have Football stinking up the schedules.
