Holby is a consistent performer and* cough * always beats the ITV opposition on at the same time, ok no opposition, but a consistent and less expensive drama than a rage and some good comedy recently.

I think that keeping Holby City on Tuesday for most of the year stops BBC1 trying something a bit different there that could rate higher for a few weeks. There is a big audience there on Tuesday between 8-9pm that neither BBC1 or ITV can get

If you read cylon6's post just above yours (which neatly encapsulates what I remember from last week), you will see that it is quite likely that no such 600,000 figure was correctly posted.

Interesting - it was apparently/could have beeen/possibly higher than 500k and then dropped. So you assume it was 600k - you should get a job releasing all ITV ratings.

Can you do demo breakdowns for Good Morning Britain compared to Daybreak or compared to GMB's first week?

It doesn't matter whether it was posted or not. It doesn't mean it didn't happen, does it? If GMB posts a good rating it's odds-on not to be posted anywhere !

The facts are these:

1) A poster claimed the show hit 600K average on Thursday.
2) A second poster we know has access to the overnights has pointed out that it "dropped back to 500K" on the Friday.

Perhaps I'm putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5, but if the first poster was talking rubbish and I had figures in front of me that confirmed this, I might be tempted to point it out as opposed to highlighting a drop the following day.

Some would read that as 'dropped 100k', which is simply false and posts an inaccurate picture.

OK, if we accept that as being a true reflection of what happened, then after hovering at around 300,000, then 420,000, it hit 600,000 on a single day out of five, then dropped back by a rather large 100.000 to a more normal (for that week) 500,000 or so. hardly a ringing endorsement of the programme or the stability of the viewing base.

600K might well be rounded but it doesn't negate my point. Even if the actual figure was 550K that's solid enough during half term I'd argue.

I'm not going to make any further comment on this matter until we have confirmation either way. Just becoming an agenda-led discussion now and an argument for the sake of it.

In hindsight, they should have just stuck with Daybreak with Adrian and Christine. That was getting 700k-800k and 15% shares when it first started if I recall correctly, which were solid figures if not unspectacular. ITV should just look to do respectably in that slot rather than aiming to beat Breakfast.

That Andy Murray match on ITV4 was a good watch.

I've never known such discussion about a show that doesn't even get 1m viewers. I'm tempted to put it in next week's DSRPG schedule.

Good Morning Britain seems to be pulling in 500k-600k viewers on a normal day. There's no reason why it'll go up. Outside holiday periods it shouldn't take a massive dip. It's just... there.

Corrie did much better than I expected last night. 7.5m inc +1 is a very decent result considering how it was scheduled and the shows around it. I wonder how tonight will do in the wake of the 9m ratings last week.

If you see what pointless does or any soap it's habit viewing, if you break it, it does loose it's ratings. Plus it's cheaper as it's ongoing drama, do you increase costs.

What would you replace it with? What " new" show, not transplanting another one and leaving a gap, and not increasing the cost of that hours TV,

If Holby went ITV would whack a soap post Eastenders taking it's viewers back ie Emmerdale at 7 and 8pm, BBC loose out.

The Drama block works well, yes some EE viewers tail off but 9pm does well so the overall block keeps core viewers there with a couple of million coming back at 9pm, take Holby out you damage the drama st 9.

I wonder why

It's an interesting hatchet article in the Sun today, prime position on page three, with a couple of distractions, note the a Sun kept saying Susanna was going to ITV and was correct when no one confirmed it, the Sun does normally get it's TV news correct.

They must have based this on something.

Indeed you only need look at how poorly dramas are doing for ITV on Wednesdays at 9pm with light entertainment instead of the Bill.
