Secret life of cats is getting a universally positive reaction on twitter.

See just because its factual, doesn't mean it's cheapo rubbish that should be criticised.

Very clever also was that all the ads in the ad break were cat related.
Wouldn't surprise me if it did very well, it got 4.9m when it first aired.... on BBC Two.

I thought exactly the same thing when Horizon did it last year. Those knobbers at ITV didn't have the nous to change the title! Arses!

It will do well. But I'm watching the British Airways doc on BBC2 first.

Loving the hyperbole - "universal". No doubt the whole nation is tuned to itv now.

Isn't this a copy of Horizon's identically-named documentary on BBC Two a few months ago?

Genius originality at itv.

It's funny because it's true you see Andy!

Doesn't seem to be exactly the same from looking at the synopsis.

That one seemed to be about hidden cameras literally filming the secret life of a cat, this one is basically just a story about what makes cats tick.

It's even being received positively on DS, and the last programme that happened to was in black and white!

Show me a documentary topic that hasn't been covered before, there have been many programmes about traffic wardens and supermarkets over the years.

It's basically cute footage of cats in various scenarios. Not exactly groundbreaking but utterly harmless.

From a ratings perspective it's rather burdened with the comparisons to the Horizon doc as it surely won't do the 6M+ required to emerge with any real credit in that particular comparison.

It's Secret Life of Cats, not The Secret Life of the Cat. Totally different.

When's the last time EE out averaged Corrie? Probably over 2 years ago. (Backfired massively for ITV who messed up their soap schedule for Harry Potter)
Amazing for EE being top soap of the week. EE did well overall without the Friday episode. I still think they should trial that schedule for a few weeks in Autumn, and if it continues to work have it full-time from after Christmas.

Was it sponsored by Whiskas?

No problem Fudd.

Re cat doc. It's different to the BBC2 one which chipped cats and found out what they get up to. This one's more informative IMO and follows them from birth as well as using special cameras to demonstrate their points. Also some nice real life stories showing cats aren't the selfish, uncaring, nasty creatures they're often painted as. Some cat ads too.

Very well made doc, ITV should show more content like this albeit choosing a more original title.

Has to be said though that ITV still have to beat their previous record in this respect - remember Countrywise not Countryfile.

It's a shame the TV channels can't stick the boot in and report on the newspapers falling circulation figures.
The Sun has half the readership it had in the eighties, though they could say the same about the two main television channels. I haven't bought a paper for ten years.

I hope this doc does well say 5m+. It might spur ITV into commissioning a programme similar to For The Love of Dogs, or more animal docs in similar line.

Very well made and it is to their credit different from the BBC2 doc. Although didn't they do one called Secret Life of Dogs before BBC2 aired their cat doc?

Dont give them ideas at this rate we will have 'For the Love of' for every animal in the animal kingdom.

I've thought before that if they extended For the Love of Dogs to an hour, and moved it to Tuesdays, they could do a 15 minute Cats segment in the middle, presented by another presenter who happens to be a cat lover. Battersea so cats as well as dogs after all.

I dont see why BBC one cant compete more on Friday evenings and try out new programming there. "The One Show" and "EastEnders" should be confined to Monday to Thursday as the audience require an alternative to itv s schedule.

The could try out new light entertainment formats over those two half hours. BBC TWO shows alot more creativity behind its scheduling and is great at coming up with new popular stuff.

Would there really be anything to stop BBC one trying out "The Great British Bake Off" on Fridays from 8pm as an alternative to serial dramas.

Things have been changing across the media for years and like you I dont buy newspapers at all these days. But neither the print media or tv have much to crow about.

Having picked up a copy of the Daily Star in a cafe today while I was waiting for my meal, I have never come across such a dumbed down, inane newspaper with almost no news in. I do remember when this wasn't a bad read in the eighties and had campaigns about issues that affected their readership like crime and unemployment. Now rather like many television shows, it's like zombie nation. No wonder circulations and ratings are falling.

In fairness didn't ITV show 'Secret Life of Dogs' before the BBC2 one?

Everybody copies everybody. But if a programme is made with the same title it is just asking for the jokes to start flying!

At least it will balance out the 24 eps of Pound Shop Wars!
