No, that'll be their new drama about a long-haired, mumbling Northern drunk and his family of petty criminals.

From a ratings perspective it's rather burdened with the comparisons to the Horizon doc as it surely won't do the 6M+ required to emerge with any real credit in that particular comparison.
BBC Two's Secret Life of The Cat got 4.9million. So this documentary which practically has the same name and is a rip -off, airing on the higher reaching Itv with a Coro oap-boosting lead-in, ought to rate in the mid 5's at the very least. Anything else, as you've said, would not be a good result for tonight's cat doco.

Anything over 5million would be a great result. Anything over 4million would still be good. However I suspect tonight we could be looking at a 5-6m rating, especially considering its against Crimewatch.

I wonder how the BBC's rip-off Saville doc will do?

If an itv doc can get 5m+ in the summer then that's a great result for them - wasn't this week supposedly all filler from them? In normal spring weeks they sometimes don't manage much more than 5m with drama in that slot!

The BBC2 doc was one of the biggest surprises in a while - it wasn't great, it was outstanding. Probably their rating of the year after Bake Off (and even that wasn't as much of a surprise).

I feel the BBC is playing catch up with Savile documentaries, even though they are informative.

It's basically cute footage of cats in various scenarios. Not exactly groundbreaking but utterly harmless.

The Horizon documentary on cats was one of the big surprises of last year. Nobody expected 5m and it probably would have been higher had been networked in Scotland. I'd expect ITV's to rate higher due to a Corrie lead in and being on a main channel.

I also think BBC2's British Airways doc could do well, there is always interest in BA. But The Island on Channel 4 can't be ruled out, has been a good performer for the channel.

"@LiamHamilton16: Unusual Sunday ep of #Corrie is most watched show, 7.2m at 9pm, followed by #Countryfile 5.5m #AntiquesRoadshow 5m & #catchphrase 4.3m"
So much for the "Strange itv scheduling" nonsense. Not only did Corrie rate better than many expected it also dented BBC's new drama.

I thought that BBC TWO commisioned a series on cats following the Horizon success. I seem to remember some list of shows they had given the green light to and they had a series about cats. Given that itv have done well with the cat documentary perhaps it bodes well for a better Tuesday night with the baby one. They really badly need drama in that 9pm slot to support their schedule. A new popular feel drama would give the ratings a lift but they seem to want to persist with documentary there which is lucky to get 3 million against a strong BBC drama.

Unfortunately Steve it's nothing to celebrate. Obviously a positive that so many are catching up with C5's feature programming, but a big negative that so many are presumably missing the adverts and an increasing amount on the channel, even in traditionally strong genres like US drama, isn't considered appointment-to-view in many BARB homes at least.
Well, I think that's something of a negative spin on it, given how Sky Atlantic's ratings are consistently written off as irrelevant because of its extensive timeshifting. And everyone with Sky Atlantic has a PVR which is extensively promoted, which is not the same as with C5. I think it can only be good for C5 that it has a number of brands which people are loyal to and keep up with, it may not be stuff they watch live but one of the programmes went on until midnight. They may skip through the adverts but they get the additional kudos.

Secret life of cats is getting a universally positive reaction on twitter.

See just because its factual, doesn't mean it's cheapo rubbish that should be criticised.
To use your catchphrase, funny how you say that when the other day you were critiquing the BGT scheduling in 2009 and referring to every factual programme in it as "filler".

But still far below what it would have got in just about any other slot.

Filler was probably the wrong word, but you wouldn't want all 4 of the regular factual slots in what is supposed to be a special week.

ITV's #SecretLifeofCats was the most watched 9pm programme with 3.83m/16.7% last night. It was just ahead of #Crimewatch (3.61m/15.7%).

Pretty poor rating to be fair in that slot. Crimewatch didn't do that well by its standards either.

And we have a winner for standout rating of the night:

A Very British Airline took off with 2.8m (12%),

We have been watching all 5 episodes of Happy Valley on iplayer over the last two days since returning from holiday, having read the rave reviews and seen the great ratings.

What an outstanding, if a bit far fetched, drama. Sarah Lancashire has been brilliant.

The Broadchurch of 2014?

That is a poor rating and extremely disappointing. It amazes me that more viewers were temped to watch Crimewatch instead of a documentary about cats.

EDIT; Suspect the BBC2 doc dented it significantly.

Great rating, there is definitely an audience for these behind the scenes type docs, the hotel one did well last year and the Iceland one had a solid viewing too.

The era of the docusoap is back, what with all the ones on London Underground, London buses, East Coast Trains, Eddie Stobart etc etc

Most have so far been on the secondary channels rather than BBC1/ITV unlike the ones in the 90s were.

I'm not surprised A Very British Airline did well. Airport factual does well. BBC1 had Airport, then ITV had Airline, there was also Airport Live on BBC2 and Concorde's last flight also rated well on BBC2. Pity though that the documentary wasn't on in Scotland. That could depress its consolidated rating.

If Secret Life Of Cats and A Very British Airline didn't face each other both would be a million higher.

Happy Valley has been excellent nudging ahead of Line Of Duty as drama of the year. It's doing well but Broadchurch became a phenomenon and national obsession. Will we get a drama this year that breaks out like that did as a critical and viewer favourite?

Back to Happy Valley and I really hope it finishes with a huge rating. It certainly deserves it.
