I'm not going to vilify Reid - what she does career-wise is her business - but I do find it amusing that only a few months ago in December when the press were speculating about itv poaching her, she reiterated to The Mirror, "If you cut me open, I bleed BBC. I said that when Breakfast moved to Salford (in 2012) and nothing has changed".

Fast forward three months and she's joining itv. So much for this apparent display of loyalty. OK, she was not in a position to comment on her deal with itv back in December but she could have simply denied the rumours and left it at that.

How many football players speak about how much they love their clubs and then move onto the next one where they have a chance of progressing their careers. Your employer doesn't necessarily have loyalty to you. We see how alot of older women are discarded as presenters. Susannah knows this and is making the most of it when she can

Susanna Reid is very unloyal considering she was talking to Itv through her agent while under contract at the BBC. I have to laugh at all the propaganda this week from Itv, in every interview she's had such as This Morning, the people asking her questions keep emphasising how amazing it was that she was commuting to Manchester and back and that she's a fantastic mother etc. Theyre trying to make her seem relatable to the Itv daytime audience. But if youre a Housewife with a kid, Reid won't be relatable, she's being paid £1million per year!

I really hope that Good Morning Britain doesnt hit the 900,000 launch target Itv have set themselves, that would be a big bummer if it doesnt hit that mark given all the promotion and publicity it has been getting [front pages of most of the tabloids etc].

How is moving from the BBC to Itv "progressing your career"? That's a step down in general terms, but especially in breakfast television.

She isn't getting paid £1m a year

The launch target of 900k is just one of your made up targets.

Susanna Reid is way more acceptable and easier to like than either Bleakley or Chiles. I don't think history will repeat itself.

Coro should have beaten Eastenders yesterday because EE has a younger audience, more likely to go out on Fridays. I predict about 7.7m for Coro.

All the newspapers have quoted £1million a year. EVen if it's not true, that's what most people and viewers will believe.

According to the newspapers speculation it was £1million, not its 400k - nobody really knows, and nobody will ever know.

ITV have set themselves a target, and its nice of them to let you know what it is, because I know how closely you work with them.

Helen Warner who is Head of Itv Daytime says she wants the Good Morning Britain audience to be higher. It would be an unacceptable launch if it began with just 600,000/700,000 viewers.

Very American.

I'm sorry but was there any evidence that the BBC were looking to discard Susanna Reid before she announced her defection? I always got the impression that she was very well treated at the BBC: she was one of the main Breakfast anchors, for a time she presented Sunday Morning Live, they helped to raise her profile significantly via her Strictly stint and all the signs were (e.g. New Year Live) that the BBC recognised that they could build Reid's profile yet further.

The deal with itv may be exciting for her in the sense that she is starting a new venture from scratch but I never got the impression the BBC were disloyal or intended to cast Reid aside. My impression is that itv saw a good opportunity when Reid's profile was in the ascent on Strictly and pounced.

I agree, I think anything over 800,000 would be acceptable. There has been much less promotion this time compared to 2010 though so I expect around 900,000-1million will be watching come Monday. If its strong, those viewers should stay with it. If it isn't I fear ITV will just give up with Breakfast TV.

It does look American, but the set looks much less powerful than Daybreak's.

Coronation Street
7.66m (37.2%) at 7.30pm on ITV and 120k (0.5%) on +1 7.13m (30.5%) 209k (1.0%) on +1

Very poor ratings, but no less deserved

That is hilarious. Let's go to America, get a few ideas together...than simply copy their bloody sets and whatever else. Not develop a version for the UK, version for ITV or version for Good Morning Britain. Let's just well and truly rip off the States. The shot of London looks out of place even.

Why are these people in jobs? I'm sticking with BBC Breakfast.

Yeah, BBC Breakfast has nothing to worry about. Viewers arent going to switch over to GMB. On GMB's first day, they've got Richard Arnold at 6.50am and 7.45am. So it's the same old Daybreak style sub-optimal news coverage and lots of showbiz stuff which wont appeal to many viewers.

Aww well at least EE managed to be up a million on last Friday. Would have been nice to have a better share but Fridays and EE are complicated.

Hanging onto the likes of Richard Arnold signals to me someone in ITV management wants to snap up some cheap shares. ITV's breakfast disaster...part 5.

Samuel, everyone has a right to live their lives the way they choose, that includes changing jobs. All of us go for interviews, solicit ourselves to other companies whilst with a current employer. Why should it be any different for Susanna Reid? Are you telling me that if you had a job that you were happy in but found travelling difficult and tiring and then an offer of a similar job, locally with more money, came along you'd stay where you were just out of loyalty? You're a fool if that's the case.

Good luck to Susanna Reid. I will continue watching BBC Breakfast though as it's a solid format and suits me perfectly first thing in the morning.

Why did she say just three months prior that she "bleeds the BBC"??

It's been said time and again but it would be nice for Channel 4 to really ruffle breakfast TV's feathers again. I think the reason they haven't is simple - they can't afford it (or moreso justify the cost) anymore. It's a shame.

The same reason why when I was 28 I said I lived, slept and breathed BP as I progressed to management, then left and went to TOTAL. It's called being human, we live for the moment.

What's the point in trying when people won't even give them a chance? And so what if they've ripped of a set from the states, who in the UK watches American Breakfast TV anyway?? Most articles I've seen on GMB they have admitted to going with a more American format and they have been out there doing research.

I miss The Big Breakfast. Don't understand why it was axed really. Its ratings didn't even drop that low. RI:SE just seemed to be there as a behind the scenes morning Big Brother spin off.
