People expecting EastEnders to jump suddenly should just wait and see what happens. It hasn't jumped with other big storylines and promotional pushes apart from Kat/Alfie/Roxy.If you keep saying it'll rise for an episode then it doesn't you will just be disappointed.

Emmerdale is getting some truly appalling ratings. Wow they are stinking out the place with those numbers!

EastEnders: 6.41m (30.8%) - last week 6.24m (30.2%)
Emmerdale: 5.17m (29.5%) +1 182k - last week 5.63m (32.7%) +1 116k
Corrie: 6.95m (35.4%) +1 172k and 6.77m (30.2%) +1 254k - last week 7.21m (37.2%) +1 139k and 6.83m (30.3%) +1 188k

That's just cruel! Take that back!

We can't judge based on last night's (EastEnders figure). Monday is the real 'start' of this story isn't it? I think ratings will pick up from next week following word-of-mouth and be closer to Corrie's. There's a chance it could overtake at least until the Tina McIntyre stuff kicks off (during BGT semis?). Have been watching EE for the last few weeks and it's refreshing to see it with a real sense of purpose and laden with mystery, good pacing and much more location filming and shots on the Square. Am glad it will be in a brilliant state for its 30th - at one point I was really worried for the show and thought it was beyond repair. To say the new producer has performed a miracle would not be that much of an overstatement!

Anticipating a high BGT figure again - this series has 'success' written all over it. Amazing Grey's should be on before it though IMO. Looking forward to Daybreak's demise - Good Morning Britain is supposed to be a vast improvement according to insiders with a lot of considered and careful work (from the format to the studio and graphics). It surely can't get any worse but I do wonder if it can ever get GMTV figures or even close. Maybe it'll manage a 300k rise on average. No one wants adverts and competitions on a breakfast show.

Somehow Emmerdale has managed to outdo EastEnders in the crisis stakes - what the heck happened to it's share?! Coronation Street is little better and both soaps are joining EastEnders in the 'problem' department. Coronation Street at least has Britain's Got Talent to give it a hand at the end of next month; they'll be hoping Emmerdale is boosted with the 'halo' affect.

EastEnders has seemingly bottomed out now and will go no lower for a 'normal' episode. I do question the thought process of launching their big story now, over a bank holiday weekend when the show is being affected by the good weather and has football opposition and scheduling changes to come in the next three months.

Have I Got News For You is benefiting from a lack of competition at 9pm and is doing well. MasterChef did well against Coronation Street and is managing to hurt both ITV soaps at the moment. The Graham Norton Show isn't hitting it's usual heights and The One Show didn't see an increase which begs the question - what did the Emmerdale viewers watch instead?

Compared to Good Friday last year - Eastenders share is up by 0.7% though ratings are down by c700k

Coronation Street though is down by 5% share and 3 million viewers.

Put it like that and it looks a very strong start to the Lucy story.

Which is some progress.

I'm not even sure when they intend to conclude the storyline; a measure of how far DTC has come is if figures improve in the long term (ie: 30th anniversary). Ratings were never going to dramatically improve.

Yeah its progressed well. The direction especially is more careful and some of the shots of Oxford in "EastEnders" lifted it above the normal episode so regardless of its viewers it is getting things right on screen. Its become a quality production again and you can notice that in more actors being involved in scenes, the inclusion of solid actors is also very helpful to any story flow.


Although I did read Dominic Treadwell Collins doesn't want a live reveal apparently. I was quite surprised but he says that he doesn't want to repeat what they've done in the past so fair play.

Intersting to hear "Good Morning Britian" is also thinking more carefully about the production of the show. Look forward to seeing something different coming out of itv could give BBC Breakfast a good run for its money.

I think for all the talk of EEs ratings drop Corries is even worse. EE at least lost their 3 million over 3 years. Corrie has lost the same amount in a matter of months.

They might get a boost for Tina's death aided by BGT but they need to keep those viewers and not lose them again.

I noticed on another forum, an Itv insider is hyping up the launch of Good Morning Britain:

Despite all this, I bet you Breakfast continues beating Itv Breakfast show by about 2.5 to 1. Why would any loyal viewer of Breakfast decide to tune over to Itv's ad-filled less newsy version? It's not going to happen.

The difference is though Corrie is still ahead. It's not a good place to be in when it appears people are tiring of the genre as a whole right now.

Yes but for how long? EEs decline appears to have stopped and now its levelled out. Unless the same happens for Corrie will EE end up edging in front? last night shows how close they can be. If this story works for EE then I don't see how anything can be seen as a negative for the BBC.

Of course though Corrie benefits better from timeshifts but still a 3 million loss in a year is not something to be proud of. Even if it is still ahead of EE by a few thousand in overnights. That's alarming to be honest. I'm surprised ITV aren't asking questions about Blackburn yet.

Encouraging they have actually spent time thinking about "Good Morning Britian" though rather than just carrying on. The graphic design sounds good too. Hope they pull it off.

Anything is bound to be better than Daybreak. But it wont be enough to tempt loyal BBC Breakfast viewers over. I bet in 6months, the situation will be the same- BBC Breakfast winning the ratings by over 2 to 1. If youre a viewer of BBC Breakfast, give me some reasons why you'd suddenly stop watching it after several years and tune over to Itvs breakfast show? Theres no reason, viewers will stick with what they know best. Susanna Reid will make no difference, in fact BBC Breakfast got its best Monday rating of the year just after Susanna Reid was put on gardening leave!

I'm sure they are. This time next year I'm confident Corrie will be firing on all cylinders again under a new producer. People are clearly still interested in Corrie, over 10 million tuned in for Hayley's death a few months ago. It just needs refreshing.

It's not a good sign that a rejuvenated EastEnders can't beat a weak Corrie.

Easter is different this year. The schools (Down here at least) Go back on Tuesday when it used to be the week after Easter. Looking at the Weather for Easter Monday it doesnt look great. Yesterday was the start of the Easter weekend and was fairly sunny and warm.

EastEnders and Corrie put in decent figures there.
EastEnders has managed to hold on to its Viewers across the week more or less and Friday Figures havent been much different to the rest of the week.

BBC3 figure isnt bad but what did the Omnibus get?

Emmerdale has been much lower before but i dont think it's too great at Present. Only really Val's HIV plot running and her Split from Pollard. (I only dip in and out though)

Actually, less than 10million in the overnights tuned in for the Cropper death. It actually underperformed and didnt rate as well as the 12m+ some Coro fans were hoping for.

You said it, an extra 3/4 million tuned in for Hayley's death and then turned off again. Nothing else kept them committed to watching.

Corrie has always been ahead of EastEnders. I don't believe at any point EE has been rating higher than Corrie except for the really big episodes. So its all the same as usual. The difference now is that EE is closer to Corrie on some says than ITV would probably like. If EE really did manage to bring back average/casual watchers then Corrie could be in big trouble of losing its number 1 position. At least as far as overnights are concerned.

That is what recent ratings do tell us.

I was talking consolidated. I don't think anyone realistically thought it would touch 12m.


That's so short sighted though. If a weak Corrie is still ahead of a strong EastEnders (quality wise) what will happen when Corrie is strong?

Who knows. EE hasn't been able to win back the casuals yet so what evidence is there that Corrie will? You cant dismiss them losing 3 million in 12 months. That's a lot of viewers and just because it is still ahead of EE doesn't mean its all rosey in the garden.

Without wanting to 'get involved'... 3 million down year on year? What figures are you using to get to that conclusion?
