Paul O'Grady was contracted for 2 series to air at 5pm. It'll be interesting to see if it is recomissioned and if it is, where they put it.

Will running The Chase all year round cause it to get old and people to get bored of it though? ITV viewers are notoriously fickle compared to BBC1 viewers who like comfy pair of slippers programming week in week out across vast parts of the schedule.

ITV did go through a brief spell of Saturday afternoon family films as a lead-in to Splash earlier this year. I remember Ice Age 2 and Despicable Me were both shown, maybe some others I can't remember. They did reasonable ratings as far as I remember, and of course they have their regular Star Wars and Harry Potter afternoon film series as well.

BBC1 are in the middle of spell of Saturday late afternoon family films right now so I'm not sure if competing film genres would work at the same time.

It's interesting how BBC1 are playing out these films around 5.15pm and holding the news back until around 6.40pm. I know there are many definitions of primetime and we've seen numerous arguments here over the years but for me I always losely consider it as being news to news, so it just makes primetime look like it's Pointless, the Lottery quiz and Casualty and that's about it.

On the flip side ITV Saturday primetime is an hour longer at both ends of the schedule but is really all about one show at 7pm.

Indeed, but they've done that for years at off peak times like this, which is why they don't have a string of summer flops like ITV do, as they can run the two bankers and Pointless.

They must be due a repeat run of Mrs Brown soon, they haven't aired one for at least a few week,s possibly when The Guess List finishes.

Prime time is news to news also in my opinion. If the ratings people were cleaver that could create an alternative prime time share figure rather than the current ones which are the same 7 days a week regardless of the schedule.

I'm sure some (if not all) of the BBC One showings would also have charted, were it not for a quirk of tape-checking. The BBC One transmissions typically ran from 18:54 - 18:57, and so after tape-checking they must have disappeared from the overnight data, being deemed to run from 18:55 to 18:55!

There was a UKIP PEB on BBC One on Wednesday 23rd which ran from 18:52 to 18:57 which in theory should have charted if it got more than 2.56m, but it's not in the chart.

I take it then it hasn't rated as well this week as it did last week.

The shares have been brilliant and actually the promotion was planned.
4 trailers in total for this storyline and this was number 2.

I don't know what your problem is though seriously. I get it you don't like EastEnders but I don't understand your constant Bad Attitude towards it.

My impression is that EastEnders is still doing very well this week - 7.78m on Monday, 7.4m on Tuesday and 7.2m on Thursday. It may not be as high as last week's immediate aftermath of the Lucy Beale aftermath - which generated some superb drama - but the retention and audience shares have been very good.

If only Corrie could do the same, EastEnders is streets ahead of it in terms of drama and storytelling. Such a shame ITV chose to hire the bulldozer as producer.

EastEnders consolidated numbers from last week so far - whether caveats apply is for you to decide, not me:

21/04 - 9.09m (35.5%) - Corrie had 8.82m / 8.98m and 8.87m / 9.08m
22/04 - 9.06m (38.7%)
24/04 - 8.18m (38.7%)

Those 12,300 people who tuned out of Coronation Street early, or watched EastEnders for a few seconds longer can now hang their heads in shame.

Just wanted to say, well done BBC Breakfast this week for holding your own and building your audience. I'm not an OAP with slippers unable to work my remote control (apparently all BBC One viewers are) but anyone would think so reading this thread.

But you will be one day. Though surely by then remote controls will be a thing of the past.

Not sure what you're getting at. I watch BBC Breakfast out of choice and I am a young professional. The notion that up to 1.6m viewers are watching it because it's a default option for OAPs is daft (in my own opinion).

Looks like Sky Atlantic are hoping to boost the live viewing figure of Game of Thrones (not that it's been doing badly) by cutting down to just one ad break per episode from Monday:

Just a follow-up on this:


Broadcast magazine confirms the official rating for the final portion of the omnibus (25:02-25:32 on the night of Friday 18th) as 1.17m (26.2%) and states that pure timeshift made up 740k of that. That was the 17th highest pure timeshift of any programme on any channel during the week. It was higher than the pure timeshift for the Monday 20:00 EastEnders (20th, +670k pure timeshift), the Thursday 19:30 episode (23rd, +610k), and (notably) the Friday 20:00 episode (outside top 30, less than +540k). Of EastEnders showings, only the Tuesday 19:30 episode timeshifted more, and not by much (13th, +780k).

We can infer that the final Live + VOSDAL (i.e. the overnight, but accurate to the nearest minute like the officials are) was 430k. Timeshift therefore added +168% to the Live + VOSDAL rating.

Sorry to pile it on, D.M.N., but do you have the final Live + VOSDAL for the first three EastEnders omnibus episodes on Friday 18th, i.e. at 23:39, 24:06 and 24:34? Could give us an indication of how many on-demand/PVR viewers are being unfairly stripped from the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday primetime editions. Totally understand if it would unduly tap out your access.

I'm coming back to this because I remember so many times when ITV said they were sticking with Daybreak. Had to check I wasn't imagining it.

In August 2011 Peter Fincham said this about Daybreak with Adrian & Christine.
