Is the party over?

I don't know about others, but I feel like something is really missing from my life this year & I've realised it relates to all things "Who".

Last year now seems like a distant memory, like the last hurrah to celebrate the big 50th birthday party, and now, nothing..

No new shows since Christmas & we'll have to wait to the end of the year . God knows what Capaldi will be like (a gruff old bugger more attuned to the 1st or 3rd Doctor maybe-?) . I will miss Matt Smith, I think time will view him very favourably as one of the great Doctors

No more classic series DVD's . I've almost purchased the lot (aside from the worst of the 6th & 7th Doctor). I really miss what had become the monthly release of an old classic, ticking off what remained to come out. Oh the joy when the likes of The Deadly Assassin, Seeds of Doom & Terror of the Zygons were released. Simply the anticipation once you knew they were coming up on the production schedule.

And no sign of any more missing episodes being discovered . Oh those heady days late last year after Web of Fear & The Enemy of the World were returned (I think only now it has sunk in they have come back & almost complete), & all that chatter around then of more to come. I kept telling myself "don't believe the hype until there are some facts" but it was hard not to prevent the unfounded hope from building up.

Because of all this, there seems a lot less interesting things to talk about on here.

Any one else feel like me, or am I just a little too preoccupied on Doctor Who (& really should get out more)?

Will they do any trailers for the new series?

I'm sure there will be some in the pipeline. Do we have dates yet on when it is suppose to return or is it still just "later in 2014 around about August"?

Just read this:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/d...ctures-3429039
but not much help there with that

I think you're looking at the glass being half empty. You should take out a subscription with DWM or Big Finish Audio, as both have new monthly realises and although they're ot as good as the TV series, they both have stuff to keep you going (Steven Moffat has a monthly column in DWM). A lot of people have also started watching some of Capaldi's back catalogue- the Thick of it in particular is really funny and one of my favourite comedies.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the new series and with Coleman and Capaldi, I think it has the potential to be the best series yet. But to keep me going 'till then, I've been watching new who from the beginning, a few episodes each week.

I haven't long completed my classic collection. Started buying the odd story here and there a good few years ago now but ended up buying all the rest in bulk a few weeks back (at a considerable cost, but hey ho).

So I'm working my way through all the classic stories I haven't watched yet. I am currently on Reign of Terror, the last story of Hartnell's first season, so I've got a long way to go yet. But it will help fill the gap between now and September.

The anniversary celebrations may have ended, but for anybody tracking filming - the party never ends.

Bizarre, I was thinking the opposite only this afternoon. I was thinking that its been a fantastic couple of years, all the lead up to the 50th, then the Christmas Regeneration and now all the anticipation of a new Doctor in September. Its never been a better time, Fantastic!

Yes, as the OP mentioned, there hasn't been much "Who" since the Christmas TV story. There has only been The Web Of Fear on DVD, plus a few audios, and one book about the show called "The Who's Who of Doctor Who", released in January.

I did purchase off amazon yesterday, this:

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XiqT-9HrKd...soundtrack.jpg

So looking forward to this coming through my letterbox soon! Cannot wait to start listening to this. Apparently on amazon, you can listen to 30 second samples of each track. That's what I've been doing since buying this. It whets my appetite for the real thing next week.

There are 4 CDs, containing incidental music, themes and sounds for every Doctor, up to Matt Smith. Unfortunately, it doesn't contain the Series 5 theme or the Series 7 part 2 theme. Shame! Also, the DW theme for the 2008 Series with Catherine Tate doesn't appear.

For "New" Who, the only theme that appears is the one used between 2005-2007. But it is the Opening Titles theme, and not the full version.

I am very pleased that it features the Keff McCulloch theme and the John Debney theme for the TV Movie, plus Dominic Glynn's version, as I didn't have those.

I'm surprised that it cost less than £15, as you would think, with a 4 CD box set, that it would be around £20, maybe £25, but no. It was cheaper than I thought. Bargain!

There will still be more new episodes transmitted in 2014(12 minimum) than 2013(10). We have all the back catalogue of who bar uwm2 available on shiny dvd, loads of stuff available to watch online( managed to find and watch return to devil's end for the 1st time), a full new series with a new doctor later in the year. Its a great time probably the best to be a Dr who fan. Much better than 1989 through to 2005 when we were truly living off scraps. My only wishes are for the missing episodes either to be found or if not then animated for dvd and the return of doctor who confidential. I don't think either will happen though

I'm certain I remember reading that this year/series is still being linked to the 50th, as if it will still be celebrated. It sort of makes sense though, series 7 to November was the build up, then there was the actual anniversary and then now there's the year following November 23rd. Probably makes no sense but I'm sure I remember a quote from Moffat saying something about series 8 being as much of a celebration as The Day Of The Doctor.

I agree with your general sentiment that we are experiencing a content dry spell, but I see it more as a temporary hiatus of 'the party' rather than anything being over. Not much happening now but we know that we've got a new series and new doctor to look forward to less than six months from now.

Plus, unpleasant as waiting is, after the split in series 6 and then having only half a series per year in the last two, I would have thought most people would have got used to it by now.

It's just the usual post-event psychological feelings. People often find themselves feeling deflated and a little depressed after a big, much anticipated, successful event. Like January after celebrating Christmas with family and friends .

I think I feel the exact opposite - I thought the anniversary year was a bit of a damp squib, to be honest, and I'm just glad its over.

I really enjoyed the anniversary episode itself, and loved An Adventure in Space and Time. But what else was there, really? A handful of episodes leftover from 2012, a few classic episode repeats and a couple of loosely-linked documentaries/discussion programmes.

Sadly, I'm really glad the anniversary is out of the way and the BBC has committed to producing a full season of Doctor Who each year again, with all the episodes shown in one run again. No more stupid mid-season breaks!

I think its a shame its all been moved to the autumn because I think the spring-start worked better, with the Christmas episode breaking up the gap between seasons.

But over all I am excited about the new season. I know Matt's final episode was a bit of a mess, but at least it wrapped up all his storylines.

It feels like Peter Capaldi has been given a completely clean slate and I'm hoping its going to give the show a really fresh new start.

Looking behind the scenes, everything points to that fresh start. Moffat's words on changing the feel of the show again. Brian's comments. The new producers and script editors. Even Danny Cohen moving on from BBC One Controller - after Cohen vs Moffat vs BBC News of 2011.

I know we joked about Capaldi kicking down doors and getting things sorted - but Ben Stephenson has been very supportive.

And whilst I haven't been keen on any of Moffat's story arcs, I am genuinely intrigued by the Doctor's search for Gallifrey.

Half of me thinks it will run long beyond Moffat's time on the show. The other half thinks it will be his grand finale - in coordination with his successor.

Yes, I genuinely think season 8 will be Moffat's swansong and I really think it would be a shame to rush it to a conclusion in one (or even two) seasons. There could be plenty of little clues, returning characters (Romana, the Rani etc) or red-herrings along the way. And it needn't take over the whole show. It could just been a storyline that bubbles along nicely in the background and occasionally bursts to the surface.

We'll have to have a pre Series 8 party if Doctor Who wins yet another Hugo award. Name and Day of the Doctor, An Adventure in Space and Time AND The Fiveish Doctors Reboot all nominated.

The latter must be a very outside bet but I'd find it hilarious and rather brilliant if Peter Davison bagged it!

(cheers to CD93 for making me aware of this in the Doctor Who Fan thread. Made me smile) How many Hugos has Doctor Who won, anyone?

Six, I believe.

"The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances"

"The Girl in the Fireplace"

"Blink"

"The Waters of Mars"

"The Pandorica Opens"/"The Big Bang

"The Doctor's Wife"

I have to disagree. I think the anniversary was a huge success in terms of storyline, audience appreciation and size and for increasing the profile of the show both here and abroad.

I suspect your expectations were rather too high. In particular, expecting a full season of anniversary related goodness (as you indicated was your expectation in your earlier post) was always unrealistic.
