Arguably the best three voices in pop music, and often dubbed the "vocal trinity". Who is your favourite? All three have exceptional talent, and I revere all three for what they have achieved. According to their record labels, all three have sold 200 million records, which makes them the best selling female recording artists of all time (after Madonna).

Whitney "The Voice" Houston - one of the best voices of ALL time. She is a legend and her music will go down in history.
Total certified sales: 110.9 million.
Most popular songs: I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Saving All My Love For You, I'm Every Woman

Mariah Carey was probably the least successful over here in the UK, but had 18 number ones in the United States. She is second only to the Beatles for number ones in the States. She has a five octave range and whistle register, the latter of which she became renowned for. In addition, Mariah Carey is the only one out of the three who co-wrote and produced every one of her songs (with the exception of covers).
Total certified sales: 129.1 million
Most popular songs: Without You, Hero, We Belong Together, When You Believe (with Whitney), All I Want For Christmas Is You

Celine Dion was there to fill in the void for a powerhouse singer singing conservative ballads, as Mariah and Whitney started to go into the R&B market. She is regarded as one of pop music's most influential voices. She was probably the biggest of the three in Europe
Total certified sales: 121.7 million.
Most popular songs: My Heart Will Go On, Think Twice, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, Power of Love, Because You Loved Me

Sorry to each their own I don't like them, too flat all of them we need more Grace Jones, Nona Hendryx and PJ Proby in the world..

Macy Gray has an interesting vocal also..

Mariah Carey every time and why? A lot of people don't realise Mariah writes and co-composes all of her own songs (save for the covers) she entirely wrote her emotions albums and up until Mimi was the majority writer, producer etc. Her vocals were pitch perfect and her control, tone, and acrobatics were second to none. She has such passion for her own music which she puts so much into that for me no competition.

Whitney for me has always been bland. She had a brilliant voice some nice songs but generally meh.

Celine similarly to Whitney. But her Falling Into You album is one of the best diva albums of all time and a fairly decent record.

'Arguably the best three voices in pop music'....ummm, I wouldn't rate any of them against Aretha, Dusty or Tina but if I were to choose between these three, then Whitney easily.

I would pick Mariah as love most of her work though a few of her songs haven't been great of late. I love Whitney too. I'm only a casual fan of Celine but admire some of her songs. She is definitely for the Oprah audience. Inoffensive safe ballads aimed at the housewives and mothers. She's good at what she does though

Mariah. She has the voice of an angel. The quality, tone and range of her voice is incredible and she's released (mostly) great music throughout her career. Plus there's something endearing about her and her personality.

Out of those I would say Whitney. But arguably Jessica Simpson has one of the best voices.

Always Whitney. At her peak no one could match her.

Mariah was cool in the 90s but since the 00s has been nothing but an embarrassment really. She tries too hard to convince people her voice is still epic. Singers lose their power as they get older. Its just a fact of life. Mariah just needs to accept her best vocals are behind her and focus on her range as it is now.

Out of these three, Celine is in front and Whitney not far behind. Mariah is way, way behind them both.

Celine continues producing great music, and her last two albums have been major hits here.

Whitney produced some marvellous songs in her time and for me her story is that great "what if?"

For me Mariah dabbled in music that didn't show off her talent and I could never take her seriously.

The main problem for Mariah is that she went from being a real musical talent to just being all ass and tits. Her image revamp in 1997 ruined her credibility and its been in decline ever since as a result. To go from girl next door to over sized sex doll over night was always a stupid decision.

Actually her image revamp in 97 was a success. She showed she had cross over appeal and could be taken as a credible and serious artist. It was 99 with Rainbow when it really started to decline. Then she released two cracker sin 05 and 08 but now we're back to the skids.

Mariah Carey purely because Emancipation of Mimi is one of my favourite albums ever.

Actually you are probably right. Butterfly was a great era. She completely lost everything in the early 00s. Loverboy is best forgotten. Mimi was a good album and We Belong Together a cracking single but it took her five years to reach that height again and she hasn't been back their since despite Touch My Body being a reasonable hit. If you compare all this to the 90s where it was hit after hit after hit you can pin point where her decline started.

No one ever really comes back from a career decline. They may have a little success, but it's nothing on what they used to have. I love Mariah, but in my opinion, The Emancipation of Mimi was a fluke. The three most successful songs off the album: We Belong Together, Shake It Off, and It's Like That were written after the album had been completed. L.A. Reid didn't think the album would be a success and so threw Mariah into writing sessions with Jermaine Dupri. It worked, but I just see it as a fluke. She's been trying to ride the Emancipation wave ever since.

I do agree with both. Whilst a fantastic album and era Mimi has never been recaptured and was her one moment after 97 when she was on top again. Will she do it again who can say?

Whitney's voice just has a presence about it that I have never heard from another singer. I think it's to do with her resonance, it's just divine. Mariah is queen of the high notes though and Celine is good at singing with high amounts of emotion.

I'm not a fan of any of the three, but if I had to I'd rather listen to Whitney's discography than Mariah's or Celine's.

Whitney is the only one out of them I can listen to without the urge to rip my ears off, so her. Her voice was beautiful, powerful and impressive enough to distract me from those cheesy lyrics.

For me comparing their versions of The Star-Spangled Banner says it all.

Whitney

http://youtu.be/drDSALCKH_Y

She keeps the melody of a hugely difficult song. Her performance is beautifully nuanced and her power notes are soaring and beautiful. She has a gorgeous, rich tone.

Mariah

Some nice touches, but she over ornaments and loses the melody. For me her final famous whistle note is no match for Whitney's soaring, full bodied sound.

Celine

Power without finesse.

For me it'd have to be Céline, I grew up listening to her in my house and in my opinion, her material has never really faltered too much and her voice has been consistent over the years, where as Mariah and Whitney both had suffered a decline in their vocals. Falling into You is one of my favourite albums, and her latest is really good too.

Mariah and Whintey are both amazing though, I definitely don't like them any 'less', I just listen to Celine more aha. One thing I do like about Mariah though is she has something for every type of mood, and the variation in her lyrical and vocal styles over the course of her career makes for an amazing back catalogue and then of course Whitney just had that beautiful beautiful voice <3

Mariah's vocal for her cover of "I wanna know what love is" is amazing! You can hear the pain in her voice! Despite the over the top diva image that is betrayed by the media, she has endured hardship. An absent father growing up with whom she reconciled with shortly before his death in 2002. Her sister is a drug addict who was busted for prostitution a few years ago. Her sister is also hiv positive.

Mariah

She's the only one out of the three who is a songwriter and producer. She's incredibly talented, people don't usually give her credit for that apart from her voice. She was not just a singer like Whitney and Celine. Her voice also is the most interesting to me, Whitney was an incredible vocalist, that suffered a massive decline. Celine Dion at her peak also was but her voice has always been a little annoying. A lot of people don't realise that her voice has also declined but she's very disciplined with her voice, she also has mastered how to lip-sync without making it obvious. Her concerts are usually 50% lip-synced.

Mariah changed the industry, she's worked with nearly everyone and is trully the queen of remixes. She was the first major Pop/R&B crossover artists to have a rapper in her song. She set the standard for the pop-hip-hop colloboration.

Just my opinion, Whitney and Celine are a little dull to me. I've always found Mariah's story really interesting. I like how she can give you a Hip-hop style song like 'Migrate', R&B song like 'Honey', Gospel song 'Fly Like A Bird', honest and personal song like 'Petals' etc.

She really came from nothing, her family were racially abused in the 70's, someone poisoned their dog, set their car on fire and people would spit at Mariah on the bus. Mariah's sister ended up on the street, living a prostitute and now sadly is living with HIV.
Mariah and her mother would move around, staying with friends, I think they may have even lived in a car at one point. Mariah always felt like an outcast as a child because the black kids couldn't identify with her and neither could the white kids. "I always felt not black enough and not white enough". It's something that she struggled with most of her life. Check out her songs: 'Outside', 'Petals', 'Looking In', Can't Take That Away. A lot of her songs are very deep but many don't know the context behind.

Check her speak about being Bi-racial on Oprah
