Fish and Chip Pie
Lucy Lou
19-04-2014
I was just reading about this Fish and Chip pie which Marks and Spencer have created - I can't make up my mind if I want to try it or not?.....It sounds all wrong I love fish and chips but I am not a huge pie fan.

"In the words of its famous adverts, this is not just any portion of fish and chips … this is Marks and Spencer fish and chips. And it comes in a pie – complete with a layer of mushy peas.

The extraordinary creation is made from chunks of cod, pea puree and tartar sauce, all held together in shortcrust pastry and topped off with a chip ‘lid’.

Designed to treat indecisive eaters to a mixture of two traditional favourites of British cuisine, the pie is due to hit the shelves later this month, priced at £3.49"

Anyone here think its a good invention?

I often find the 'new invention' type things don't appeal to me very much, but I think if I saw this in M&S I probably would be tempted to try it, even just for the sake of it.

I love pie in general, so that part definitely appeals. Not sure about the chips as the topping, but I can see it working I think. I think I'll give it a try anyway!

I will give it a go. I wanted to try there all day breakfast pies but never got round to it. I will pop in this week and see if they still do them

I tried one of these today. I cooked it for the recommended time and the chips on the top of the pie ended up being really hard with some burned. The pie itself below was ok, there didn't seem to be a great deal of fish in there. I doubt whether I will bother buying another one in the future as it's a bit expensive for what it is.

Sounds horrid. I quite like fish and chips but this idea does seem like a carb overload.

Starchy fried potatoes with starch coated fish, enveloped in a heap of pastry starch.

Thanks for that review Weetibix it doesn't sound too appetising, especially the hard chip lid, if I'm going to have chips I like a chip butty which sounds impossible with this pie, think I will give it a miss.

Not much more carby than battered fish with chips and bread & butter on the side.

I had an all day breakfast pastie last year and although it was not too bad it is not something I would try again.

I should just add the fish wasn't battered......it seemed to be cod and potato in a sauce with a mushy peas on the bottom layer
