'un-tarnishing the tarnished'

please name:
albums that you felt were great albums but maybe misunderstood owing to social context, hype, presentation, album track order, single releases, promo, bad reviews, bad sales, timing of release

Glitter by Mariah Carey.

Great throwback album, brilliant vocals and production but overshadowed by various things ie the terrible film, Mariah going a bit loco, September 11th

The Wolftones - Let The People Sing, irish rebel band who my mam used to play. I still have the album and sometimes listen to it on my own, some great songs

'My December' by Kelly Clarkson, wasn't successful due to being less 'poppy' and not having a big single but I love it and think it has some beautiful songs.

DEFINITELY! One Minute, Sober, Be Still, Maybe, How I Feel, Can I Have A Kiss, Irvine, Chivas - all great Kelly tracks

The Great Escape by Blur. Seen by some critics as weak when compared to Modern Life is Rubbish, Parklife and Blur, but this is just plain wrong! I actually prefer it to the other three albums I mentioned.

I agree with this too, The Great Escape has some of their best tracks alongside their best singles. I prefer it to thier previous albums, although my overall favorite of theirs is "Blur"

Alanis Morisette- Supposed former Infatuation Junkie, always gets a raw deal in comparison to it's blockbuster predecessor. When in fact it is much more mature introspective and forward thinking. It might be overlong, wordy and ambiguous but its possibly one of the best most thoughtful albums of the 90's.

Marina & The Diamonds- Electra Heart, ambitious, thoughtful, and intelligent all to the backdrop of big pop productions. For some reason the album got mixed reviews and went all but unnoticed. In part it's analysis of American society was also being done by Lana Del Rey who was getting much better reviews, when electra is just as strong, but never gets the recognition.
