Been watching some emmerdale episodes from the late 80s early 90s and though he as part of the cast eric some to appear quite rarely, was he a recurring character in his early years (say up till around 1991) did watch these all on granada plus year ago but cant remember how often he featured. What were some of his early storylines please

Yes - and after marrying Gloria to help him progress (as in progress towards becoming the Mayor, I think it was from memory).
Well done on 3K posts BTW, rolergirl |

He tried to blag Betty out of a field she owned. He also tried to blag lisa before she was with zak over something I can't remember what.
he was a right bastard as was Turner back in the day. Both these characters have mellowed over the years. |

Eric was back to his old tricks when Edna was short of a bob or 2. Did she ever get her father's medals back?

I think in his early days he worked at an auction house in Hotten and was involved in various shady deals.
He had a chinese mail-order bride who ran off with a young lad from the village and broke his heart. At that point Eric owned/co-owned (with Kathy Bates) a bistro where Marlon was his chef. Subsequently he became a councillor and married Gloria and he was then pictured with another female councillor in a compormising position - think it was a set-up. Gloria did a runner with all his money. Then he ended up with Val. Bit sketchy to be honest, but hope it helps

I have vague memories of his first appearances. Either Henry or Amos from the pub was involved with a married Italian woman and Eric came in through that story I think. The woman's husband disappeared and I'm sure Eric was involved. Sorry I don't remember very clearly.
The mail order bride made him a duck curry or something once when they were skint. She''d used ducks from the pond and said how easy they'd been to catch ![]() Eric was involved in antiques for ages, and then the council. He was always considered crooked and untrustworthy and he could be quite ruthless. He's really mellowed in recent years, and discovered a talent for cooking |

Years ago he was a dodgy antique dealer and used to break into houses to get stock.
He broke into Henry Wilkes' daughter's holiday home. Her husband caught him and chased him outside and a shot was heard off camera. Henry's son in law had been shot and was paralysed. Pollard has never been connected with it and it has never been mentioned again. I believe in reality it was a plot device as Jack Sugden was having an affair with Henry's daughter and she was about to leave her husband. As he was paralysed she stayed with him and they went back home to Italy thus ending the affair and writing them out. He was also suspected for a very long time of having killed his first? wife during the plane crash. He was a nasty bit of work not the "loveable" rogue he became. |

That's the story I was thinking of! As I was typing I couldn't imagine either Henry or Amos having a thing with a married woman. And the Italian man was shot, he didn't disappear. Now you mention it I remember that Jack was having a thing with Henry's daughter. Maybe it was just me thought Pollard had something to do with it - he was a very nasty piece of work
![]() Eric shot the Italian guy. It seems to have been completely forgotten about now but I can remember it clearly, albeit I was about 10 at the time! |

Great thread!
My mother wanted me to ask a question. Isn't a lot of the reason that Val died, that Eric & Co. locked in the hall of mirrors? Is the over the top anger he's showing to Chrissy, because of the guilt of heading off to a pub to get wasted, as she died? I told her that will be ignored, and not ,entioned again. But, she wants me to ask them folks what talk about it on the interweb what they think.

I'm also hoping that the writers are going to revisit some kind of underlying guilt over Val's demise, as he was the one who locked her in the Hall Of Mirrors. |

My husband said to me while we were watching last night " Why doesn't anyone bring up the point that he was just as responsible for Val's death for locking her in the Hall Of Mirrors and buggering off to the pub " and I straight away thought " Ah, of course! That's why he's being the way he is and not going through the grieving process in a healthy way"
The ol' man would never make that connection because he's not emotionally mature like me. ![]() He just wants other characters to bring Eric down off his high horse - he's so compassionate. I'm a big fan of Emmerdale but this storyline is annoying me. Its easing off a bit now but it seemed at one time everyone agreed with Eric regarding Chrissie murdering Val which is obviously not the case. He even held Diane partly to blame despite Val being her sister. I actually want someone to give Eric a good slap! |
