Would Denise Van Outen have been a better Linda Carter?
Linda Carter is a great character and I think Kellie Bright is fantastic at playing her. She is like Angie Watts without booze and Den Watts. However, I think that Denise van Outen may have been, in some respects, a better actress to play Linda. I think a Danny Dyer/Denise van Outen power couple taking over The Vic would have been even better for the soap, Denise van Outen is also a very well-known and accomplished actress but she would also have brought glitz and glamour to the role, a little bit like when Babs became Peggy. That's not to say that I dislike Kellie Bright and Linda Carter at the moment, because I don't - quite the opposite, I love her - but I just have this feeling that Denise van Outen should have got the job.

Nah my general perception of Denise is that she would be too hard, cold and too 'masculine' to play Linda. I like Kellie's light, bright, bubbly style. I think Denise brings too much baggage and Danny was really the star signing with Kellie as brilliant support.

I doubt the Carters would have much future if it were Danny and Denise, They wouldn't be "long term" characters. I still give Danny Dyer 2 years and he'll be gone. Kellie may stay longer in the role which would mean splitting them up or killing Mick Carter off eventually.

I love kellie bright and her portrayal of Linda although everytime I see her I can't believe she was the kid I used to watch in the upper hand, she is a year younger than me so it makes me suddenly realise I'm getting on lol

It would have been hard to buy Denise as a homophobe. Also she's lesss submissive than the character of Linda needs to be - she doesn't fill the homemaker look.
I do agree that perhaps she would have looked better on Danny Dyer's arm |

I cannot stand the Linda Carter that is in it now, and she is one of the reasons that I stopped watching. I don't know if I would have preferred DVO, as I'm not a fan of her in general but she might have been ok, I think that Danny Dyer has turned out better than most people thought so I may have been pleasantly surprised. The stupid overacting that we have at the moment is so offputting, I personally would like Mick to find someone else and for Linda to leave.

No but she would be my first choice to play Lola's Mum...and that role needs to be cast.

I disagree. Danny has said publicly that he intends to stay in East Enders for a long time to come (he wants to do an Ian Beale). But maybe it would have been an even bigger boost to have two star signings rather than just one.
He's raising his profile again and doing something that his family can watch for a while. As soon as the big bucks from movies comes around again he'll be off quicker than I can type this reply to you! |

Oh god no. Kellie Bright has been a perfect casting for Linda. Going by what little i have seen her in and the pictures the paps have got of her when she is out on a lunch break from filming, she seems to be a million miles away fron Linda. The clothes, the make up, the hair, her mannerisms and just everything about her for me seem to go beyond the writing and slightly more on how Kellie has chosen to play her. It's not like she is playing herself.

I like Kellie and I think she's done well because EE has a lot of strong female characters and she, and Nancy to an extent, have brought a different type of female character and one that doesn't merge with Sharon/Ronnie/Roxie/Bianca/Kat/Lauren etc
DVO might be an actress but she is DVO first and foremost and I think she would leave after a while - I see both sides of the Danny Dyer story posted here and my concern is he might move on in the future. Kellie I see staying, it's a high profile role for her and she's an actress and I think she's pulling this role off |

As others have said, Kellie Bright is perfect. The whole family are well-cast (yes, even Lee!)

Angie's before my time, but since watching old eps online Linda's not a patch on her.
