Guest stars - Wish list

Dr Who has had some fantastic guest stars over the past 50 years. It got me to thinking about who I would like to see in Who, and in what sort of situation or role.

Four ideas to start off:

Tommy Bastow - I can see him playing a first world War soldier, who has to become a companion as he can't return to his own time because he has been listed as killed in action. He would have a Jamie-type historical character out of his depth vibe.

Stephanie Beacham - what about her playing an Edwardian lady sailing on the Titanic? She sacrifices herself to make sure the alien artefact aboard goes down with the ship, knocking the Doctor over the head with her handbag and pushing him into a lifeboat.

Emily Woof - would play an alien mother disguised as a 1940s housewife, there to keep her son safe - she is not intrinsically evil, but needs to stay hidden and kills people to make sure her son is safe

Dominic Monaghan - plays a Trickster type leprechaun character who sets up mischievous situations which lead to peril and danger for those involved on a variety of planets; the Doctor follows a trail of destruction across many planets to stop him

Possibly not the best ideas in the world, but characters I can see these people playing.

Who would you like to see in Who, and what character would they play?

Wow, throw many random names up in the air and one of them sticks

Just having a laff it's late for me, I'm working abroad tonight ....

In reality, think it would be great if someone completely off-piste guest starred, for example Helen Mirren as the Doctors wife (Susans' grandmom) appears as a ghostly apparition trying to warn the doctor of a threat to his personal future.

Philip Glenister and Jaime Murray as the Corsair.

Patrick Stewart - I really want him to show up somewhere along the lines. I envision him playing a sagely alien leader of a well developed and peaceful civilisation. He recruits The Doctor to investigate a dark secret or something.

Gillian Anderson - this has got to happen. I'd love to see her appear as a companion, a bit older than what we've had for a long while now which would fit so well with Capaldi, and she'd be the first blonde companion since Rose. I imagine her playing the daughter of a wealthy Victorian, who is bored of her life and it's lack of direction.

Agree with the above suggestion of Tommy Bastow. The show needs a younger male companion - it hasn't really done that apart from Adam in Series 1.

Lucy Brown: Who played Claudia and Jenny in Primeval. Just get her in it now

James Marsters: Peter Capaldi isn't the only one who could cross over from Torchwood.

Claudia Black: Ben Browder isn't the only one who can cross over from Farscape. I'd cast her as an intergalactic adventurer.

Billy Connolly: Derek Jacobite, Michael Gambon, John Hurt, Ian McKellen have all had a go...why not chuck in Billy Connolly too as an alien hippie..."lots of galaxies have a Scotland!"

Maggie Smith too, and Roger Moore...the latter seems a possibility!

There are so many actors I'd like to appear but with my realistic hat on I'd say Damien Lewis is my top choice, I think he's a top actor, but he almost exclusively plays American roles, so I'd like to see him play a Brit for once!

I'd also like to see Patrick Stewart appear, and Ian McKellen in a larger role- perhaps they could play a pair of aliens

Beryl Reed
Hale & Pace
Ken Dodd
Rodney Bewes
Kylie Minogue.....

Oh hang on! That's already happened. Be careful what you wish for. Stunt casting for the sake of it is a terrible road to go down. Just cast good actors who suit the role, whether they are 'names' or unheard-ofs.......

But having said that, I think Mr Flibble should be a baddie in one episode.

I wouldn't mind John Cleese getting another go, could be quite fun.

Roger Moore! Just the thought of him in Doctor Who makes me smile.
Here's an idea, get him in an episode with Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan (and George Lazenby too, but sadly Sean Connery has retired for good) - they could all play Time Lords, or even different incarnations of Borusa...

On a more serious note, I still can't believe Sean Pertwee hasn't been in Who yet.

Just occurred to me that I don't think Stephen Fry has been in an episode yet (correct me if I'm wrong). He'll be great in a historical episode (perhaps one he writes this time! )

Also I think it'll be fun to have Craig Ferguson do an episode with Capaldi as they are such good friends (and whovians). Doubt it will happen though as a Ferguson isn't known by many people over here

I'd like Bill Bailey to make another appearance, he was so massively wasted last time
