Hi there,

Thought I'd post here as this is more of a phone technical question.

I sold my old S3 to somebody in Northern Ireland and I'm a bit suspicious as buyer has been on Ebay 8 years and never used it ever since opening an EBay account (joined 2006 with no feedback).

They live in Northern Ireland, but I was wondering if they took it over the border to Southern Ireland would it work even though I block the IMEA?

I started the below thread in ADVICE last night, but now this is more of a mobile phone related query.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks Mark.

Also I was just wondering if there is anything else I can do to protect myself?

I have noted the IMEA and serial numbers, taken a video of me showing the IMEA number on the phones screen and then continuing on the video to dial my home phone to show it was not blocked when I had the phone and then a separate video of me calling the mobile from my home phone to prove the same?

Cheers, Mark.

Has the buyer paid you through PayPal? If so and you use a recorded delivery service to the address provided by PayPal then your covered.
How would you propose to get the handset IMEI barred if the transaction was fraudulent? Only networks can do this and to report as stolen they require a crime reference number from the police.

They have paid fully through Paypal and I was going to send it Special Delivery anyway.

Also it's saying on Paypal that I have seller protection, but will this cover me totally if I adhear to all their processes (sending with a signature etc to the address on Paypal), or could I still have issues if they raise an Ebay dispute saying that it was faulty or the box was empty?

I was not sure how I was going to block it, but was thinking that I could either call Vodafone to see and if I had to get a crime referance number then I would have to contact the police (could I still report it to the police even though it's a crime over the Internet)?

Cheers, Mark.

I would suggest you just send the phone (Special Delivery, as you said) because all that's happened so far is somebody has paid you for a phone and you've not yet upheld your side of the deal by sending it.

Is it not conceivable that someone could have set up an eBay account years ago, didn't end up using it, and now that they're looking for a phone they've tried to sign up to eBay and it's reminded them that they are already registered and enabled them to recover their password?

Cound have been I guess, but it does seem very strange.

As for not upholding my side of the deal its been less than 18 hours since I've sold the phone and I would not have been able to get to the post office anyway (hoping to do it before they close).

Thanks Mark.
