Galaxy S5 Premium Edition
Are Samsung working on a Premium Edition of the Galaxy S5? Rumoured spec below:
Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 running at 2.5Ghz Qualcomm Adreno 420 GPU5.2” 2560 x 1440 display 3GB RAM16 MP camera, 2MP front-facing camera32GB of storageThis would all be packaged in a metal housing, heavily deviating from the materials used in Samsung's current handsets. It is unclear when or if this handset will launch, but the above specifications are impressive compared to current flagship handsets that are available. Samsung could position this new handset as a limited release and attempt to launch it near the release of the*iPhone 6;*the*Samsung Galaxy S5*is currently available worldwide. http://www.neowin.net/news/new-detai...mium-galaxy-s5 |

This is really what the normal S5 should of been but the Snapdragon 805 weren't ready. Well apart from the metal housing. Hopefully it packs OIS that to me is far more important for a smartphone camera than just increasing the pixels.

As the sim free S5 is around £579 how much would they charge for this premium version £679 is my guess.
It sounds like they are probably not intending to make a profit on it. so much as disrupt the iPhone 6 launch.... ...it needs to be some distance away from the S5 so as to not annoy S5 owners. But to have the impact probably cost less than the iPhone? |

In respect of pricing it is an interesting question.

Buy the LG G3 instead.
I might even wait for the Snapdragon 808/810 as Qualcomm recently annouced they support LTE-Advanced and be 64Bit processors and 4K and Full HDR Video. Though that is not likely to be in devices until early 2015 so S6 or HTC One M9 or Xperia Z4. |

I have been considering that haven't heard a fixed launch apart from Summer which is likely true if they want to get it on carriers before iPhone 6 is released. Honestly I'm still likely going wait till October this year anyway for the iPhone 6 to be released as I am very interested in that.

You've got to feel a bit sorry for new S5 owners .
They've just signed up for 2 years at 40 quid a month, only to find it's not actually the best version. Samsung ought to be ashamed . But of course they won't be. Money money money |

Haha I was editing a bit then I will look at it but honestly I'm not even sure if will be getting a new major phone this year or not. My HTC One M7 does everything I want at moment certainly wouldn't go for the M8 OIS is more important to me then this depth thing.
Next year as you say will be good due to LTE Advanced support but the issue is the network has to support it as well. So far only EE seems committed to LTE Advanced. |

How is it any different to Sony releasing the Z, Z1 and Z2 at 6-month intervals?
The Sonys you mention are different models . We are talking about the same phone from Sammy but with more premium materials . Which is what it should have been made with in the first place . |

Rumour sounds a load of rubbish. It would be in a new Note, not an S5.
I mean, using a new screen when they have a new screen,a new case and a new chipset? Silliest rumour ever. |

We are talking about the same phone from Sammy but with more premium materials. If it were released, it'd be no more the same as the S5 than the S4 Mini is the same as the S4 - you simply choose to interpret it as such because it suits you to. Any 'S5 Premium' model would be completely different specs from the S5, the only connection would be the S5 branding. That's assuming it would be marketed as an S5 and not the much-rumoured 'F-series'. |

Premium with more dropped calls, and a more variable data rate?
You are holding the rumour wrong. |

With Samsung there's always this thing about their stubborn use of plastic instead of aluminium, and I was thinking about this today when I saw someone with their phone in one of those ugly heavy duty cases... what's the point of having a pretty aluminium phone in one of them, if aesthetics are important to you?. They should keep their phone naked then and then we would see how long it stays in pristine condition for.
With a Samsung, you can replace the back cover at least, without too much fuss. My boyfriends has an HTC with a metal body and the bit that's removable, to let you insert sim and battery, is plastic and doesn't even sit flush with the phone now. Let's not even mention all the scratches it's covered with. HTC make pretty phones, though. |

If samsung release a premium phone it will alienate people who brought the S5 and if they don't it will alienate the people who want a premium phone so either way they cannot please everyone.

People have short memories. Samsung do a lot of varataions of their phones. Heres a few examples.
The S3 Swarovski Edition http://elitedaily.com/envision/samsu...ovski-edition/ The S4 Gold and Pink Edition http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/technol...n-gold-2303753 |

http://www.iphonehacks.com/2012/02/l...hockproof.html Read the latest comments at the bottom. It shows the extra protection of the S5 is actually useful but even there nothing is 'lifeproof'. All I can say is that 'Lifeproof' have been good for new smartphone sales, as were those early sales troll posts in the thread. |
