Just got the notification for the latest iOS update ie 7.1.1

Just a few minor updates which include-
∙ Further improvements to Touch ID fingerprint recognition
∙ Fixes a bug that could impact keyboard responsiveness
∙ Fixes an issue when using Bluetooth keyboards with VoiceOver enabled

And again after the update Bluetooth gets enabled.

I tried to get the update, but it timed out. As I have very fast broadband I presume it was either their servers were really busy or that old chestnut problem where I used to have to turn off NOD32 and Windows defender. to enable the update.

iTunes also completely crashed when I tried to get out it. Was unable to re-start iTunes until I had restarted computer. Oh, just thought, could have been the AdBlock too that stopped it.

Will try again tomorrow when I will hopefully have more patience.

Why go through the bother of connecting to a computer and iTunes?
Just open Settings > General > Software Update = Easy Peasy

Since update my podcasts are taking hours not minutes to download. I have fibre optic broadband unlimited and usually, takes a few minutes.

I updated mine yesterday.

I haven't noticed anything different and the battery life is still poor.

Never had that issue. All my software updates have been done via the phone ever since WiFi updates were first made available and have never suffered any issues.

Same here. The only issue I had this time was that the 'verifying update' screen stayed on for a couple of minutes before the phone restarted. Possibly to do with the server being busy or something.

Just a word of caution (not sure if it's true) I've read some of the comments on some articles saying that apple support staff are recommending downloading the latest update via iTunes? Apparently, OTA update is causing it to brick the iPhone.

As anyone experienced this?

I've always recommended iTunes updates after a few OTA updates were problematic causing poor battery life on a number of handsets and even continual resprings on one handset (both resolved after restoring again via iTunes).

If you have the time, rather use iTunes.

Just had to look up what OTA stood for. It doesn't really take much longer to write Over The Air.

My wife's had her iPad for two years, and I've had my iPad Mini for a year. Neither of us has ever used iTunes, and have had no problem downloading apps or updates via wifi.

Small exception : I use iTunes store to look for apps, but I then enter the name in the tablet to download them.

It can take a few days for updates to be pushed to your phone.

If you are talking android then you are correct, however iOS all you need to do is go into settings and launch the software update unless I have misunderstood you?

I was replying to the earlier contributor who presumably went into General > Software Update after seeing this thread. What I mean is that if you don't manually check for an update, it can take a few days for it to be automatically downloaded and for your phone to notify you that an update is ready to install.

Oh sorry my apologies, I didn't realise the update could be pushed so to speak.

Yeah, eventually you get a '1' on the Settings icon, and a notification that says something like 'iOS 7.1.1 is ready to install'. No worries!

My 4S still isn't informing me of the update ... strange.

When I first read about it, there was a mention of "keyboard improvements". I was hoping that Apple finally put a decent keyboard into iOS. Sadly not the case .... still the same darned awful keyboard that Apple make out to be truly brilliant.

What's wrong with the keyboard, in what way should it be improved?

Predictive text that actually works - it only gives one suggestion, whereas Android and WP give a range of suggestions.

Have the keyboard layout change when you press shift for caps; Apple have moved away from the skeuomorphic designs in all areas of iOS apart from the keyboard.

It just isn't a good keyboard when compared to whats available on WP or Android.

Could be that Apple Servers (CDN) are a little overloaded after pushing the update to phones.
