What to serve fishcakes with?
Love fishcakes but I'm never satisfied with the side dish.
Any ideas? |

Wouldn't it be a help to say what sides you've had with them that you didn't like?

Mushy peas!
Or a green salad with a nice oil, lemon juice and Dijon mustard dressing. |

I'd have some poached duck eggs, parma ham and couscous with them.

I always think sweet corn goes very well with any battered or breadcrumbed fish product

What about a nice green salad with a zingy dressing?
Minted peas or mushy peas might be nice too. |

what fish is in the fish cakes?
Do you mean Thai style fish cakes or smoked haddock with lots of potato type fish cakes? |

This thread is making me feel rather inadequate - I usually just have some frozen garden peas and a good dollop of tommy sauce

Stir-fried green veg, probably a combo of spinach, green beans and rocket.

Creamed leeks - although the plate might look rather insipid, so I'd probably serve some garden peas, too.
On which note, braised lettuce with peas would be lovely with some fishcakes. |

Whenever my mum made fish cakes (of the haddock and potato variety) we would have them with chips, peas and tomato ketchup. Mmmmmm!

Rocket salad with a nice balsamic dressing, a good dollop of tartare sauce (if they are cod/haddock fishcakes) or sweet chilli sauce (salmon/tuna)

Green beans and ketchup.
If I want to posh the beans up I do them the way they are sometimes served in France ..... cooked until soft, allowed to cool a bit, and then lots of finely chopped raw garlic and sea salt (the big crystals) to give them some crunch and bite. |

The only thing wrong with all these set-ups... is the fishcakes!
Do you like them? I find them dry (however much you try to moisten them when binding). Also an unpleasant 'bitsy' texture. |
