Hello everybody and welcome to the Digital Spy Song Contest!

Following in the success of some of the games across Digital Spy (in the Eurovision & X Factor forums), I thought it'd be really cool to get a song contest running. Think Eurovision, but without the countries.

So the premise of the game is quite simple:
- You will enter one song through private message to me (Carlisle156)
- After a few days of submission time, all songs will be posted in a song list on this thread.
- All participants must then send a vote by the time the round ends (for the first one, we'll use a week of voting and see how it goes from there)
- Voting will be Eurovision Style - ranking your top 10 songs, awarding 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 & 1 points respectively.
- After voting, results will be revealed and we'll have our winner!
- The winner of the round will then be given the opportunity to host the next round.

Now, there are rules and requirements that you must abide by with your song choices:
- An entry MUST be no more than a year old, whether this be single released or an album track on an album released no more than a year ago.
- The song must not have already been used.
- The song must not exceed 5 minutes in length.
- Songs without lyrics are banned from the contest.
- Covers are also banned, only original songs.

Other Rules:
- You must not tell anybody which song is yours as the contest is to be held anonymously, anybody found to be telling people their song choice will be punished.
- Songlist reviews are encouraged, but don't let them get out of hand and be too offensive? It's okay not to like a song, but you don't need to absolutely slate it either.
- Failure to vote will result in a 12 point penalty to your song.

So the songs you send can be from any country in the world, in any language, and have either appeared in the charts or be an indie, inspired gem.

Any questions - feel free to ask, either on thread or through private message.

You have until 7pm Monday 28th April to send in your song choices to ME by private message.

PLAYLIST

So there we have it, the 19 selected songs that are competing to become the first ever victor of the Digital Spy Song Contest!

To vote, please listen to the songs & then rank your favourite 10 Eurovision style, awarding points in order, with the greater points going to those you liked most (12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1). Send me these votes in a private message to me (Carlisle156).

The deadline for voting is 7pm Friday 2nd May with results from 9pm. Reviews in the meantime are encouraged to keep the thread alive to some extent, although it is super hard to stay in the first 5 pages if you haven't got a post within the past hour.

Good luck everybody!

What I thought, usual caveat no offence meant to anyone whose song I don't like:

Champions League
Frankmusik
Whinnie Williams
Paloma Faith
Storyman

Premier League
The Correspondents
Bleachers
Banks
Robyn & Royskop
Canterbury

League 1
Bebe Black
Tove Lo
James Vincent McMorrow
Pia Mia
Jessica Mauboy
The Pretty Reckless

GM Vauxhall Conference
Little Mix
Liz
Kat de Luna
Rixton

A good mix of styles, admittedly some of which appeal more to me than others. But, as anyone who does DSFE knows the only things less successful than my songs are my predictions

I always find it interesting how I normally have a completely different music taste to the people who post there likes and dislikes etc (same with the DSFE). Obviously there is some overlap but on the whole pretty much the other way around.

Me too. I thought Kat, Pia and Jessica were the best.

That's what makes these games fun - you never know what's going to happen because everyone likes different things!

And tbh, if whoever used Jessica had sent in Pop A Bottle, she'd have gotten points from me. That's my jam.
