Had the rare commodity of time to do some reviews this week. Apologies if I've slated anyone's favourite song, but this is what I thought:
Chromeo - My word, this is very eighties. Takes its time getting going, but yeah, not a bad start.
Twin Atlantic - I'm enjoying the bass player's beard. Quite commendable. As is the song actually, like it.
Swim Deep - This is o.k, something which would come on the radio and I'd think "that was quite nice", but five minutes later I'd be struggling to remember it.
Mateo - Not certain what's going on with the falsetto chorus. Sorry, this isn't really my sort of thing.
Studio Killers - Well it's no "Ode To The Bouncer", but maybe we should be thankful for that! This is all right, shame there's no video but don't think I've ever seen one for this track?
Dami Im - Just not my genre I'm afraid, nope not at all.
Fitz and the Tantrums - Now this I like a lot. Preferred their first album on the whole, but this is still a cut above most in this contest.
Broods - Me being me, I'd love this if it had an acoustic backing. As it is, o.k but thought the music detracted from the vocal. Still plenty here to like and not a complete curate's egg.
Hey Geronimo - Sounds like Teenage Fanclub circa 1993. Far worse things to sound like though in my book. Fun but derivative.
Klaxons - A tad clinical perhaps? I'm wavering on this one, in one listen went from "love it" to "boring" and most of the way back again. O.k on the whole, or maybe just touching "pretty good".
Ella Henderson - Had to get over the whole talent show contestant thing, but once I did this was all right. Nowt special, but good enough.
Ella Eyre - Now this lady can sing. Wouldn't usually be my sort of music but can't doubt the quality here.
Cassadee Pope - Painfully middle of the road. I don't actively dislike this but equally I could never love it.
Raleigh Ritchie - Quite a nice song, wish I could hear it properly. The vocal effects and the production kill it stone dead for me.
Coasts - Tuneage! Was listening to this driving into work this morning and I greatly approve.
Stadsboer - This is nice, probably the sort of song I'd enjoy more if I could understand the lyric but a nice sound nonetheless.
