I asked the question of recording (and playback) of AD on The Humax Freeview site and was informed that you can control it on playback. Forumites said it was unreliable volume wise.

I have sucessfully recorded AD on my Foxsat, but cannot switch it off, even though I have disabled it in Settings. Am I missing something obvious?

I am researching to find a reliable AD record and Playback (switchable) machine, preferably on Freeview, for an aging relative. The impression I get is to avoid Humax. Any sugestions for a reliable box?

Thanks.

In addition to the global on/off for AD in the settings there is a button on the remote that overrides this setting for the content you are viewing. It's the little loudspeaker icon next to the Text button.

Graham, the button on the remote works there and then, but our box keeps forgetting on certain recordings, and re-enabling audio description each time the recording is watched (or each time a new recording is watched).

BBC One HD recordings are fine (always without AD), but CBBC recordings are not (always default to AD on and need it switching off each time).

Any ideas?

Cheers,
David.

Just one suggestion, try actually turning on AD in the menu setting and then off again. If that doesn't work can only suggest trying a factory reset. It's not an issue I have seen reported before though there can be a problem with subtitles appearing on live paused content. I can't say I ever record CBBC though
