Amy Lee working on Solo Material
Don't know if there are any/many Evanescence fans in here, but Dave Eggar (who she collaborated with on a soundtrack, and also worked as the band's cellist) confirmed yesterday that they're working on new material for Amy which hopefully will see the light of day this year. Quote:
Of course, Amy is brilliant! The new material that she's writing is bright, fresh and contemporary. I think we will see some of her most exciting music this year. It's so fun working together well, she's finding a new voice and direction of expression - it is wonderful to go to the studio and know exactly what will happen!
I mean I don't reckon she's going to be setting the charts alight, but it's nice to know now that she's left wind-up she's giving herself a chance to make music she wants as a solo musician. It'll be interesting to see if she gets back in the studio with Will Hunt who produced her versions of Sally's Song and Halfway Down the Stairs (he also co-produced Swimming Home from Ev's last album). You can take a listen to a snippet of one of her new tracks here: http://fantasiamag.com/music/new-amy...ppears-online/ I'm excited though!

Oh, i've heard about her working on solo material since 2004. Will it actually happen though?
She's pretty much a solo artist anyway in Evanescence, but that's not to discredit other members of evanescence though. |

She's pretty much a solo artist anyway in Evanescence, but that's not to discredit other members of evanescence though. With their last album, it was the first release where pretty much every track was credited to all the members as they all had equal input (Amy herself said usually she'd come up with the lyrics and melody and work from that, or with one other person, but they changed that for this record). And I highly doubt it'll sound anything like 'You' since that was written well over 15 years ago. There's already two track titles confirmed "Find A Way" and "Push the Button", the former she's already performed at a couple of charity events. I'm not sure if the track featured on the War Story trailer is actually PTB or not though, I'm guessing not otherwise I'm sure Dave would have said that was the track ha. |

It's a shame Evanescence aren't making any new music together but I'm really looking forward to this. I'm glad Amy has the freedom to create the sound she wants.
It will probably be a while yet though as she has a baby on the way soon

Her facebook page has been up for like a week and she's already on 1.8 million likes! Not a bad feat I don't think haha! https://www.facebook.com/AmyLeeOfficial?fref=ts
Also, you can check out the trailer for War Story here featuring "Lockdown" which is the 'unknown' song in the previous blog post.http://www.visitfilms.com/film.asp?movieID=1522 There's an interview with Joel Hoekstra (from Trans siberian Orchestra / Rock of Ages / Night Ranger) who said that he'd been in the studio with Amy working on her solo record, but wasn't sure when it would be released. However, he got in touch with the site and Amy had personally asked for them to remove that information - so I think she's trying to keep this record under wraps for now. I remember her saying she thought the future of music was on the internet, and that she thought it would be better to release an EP of music every few months rather than spend years making one album. This kinda ties in with her being independent now and I think she has enough freedom to be able to release whenever she feels ready. I'm really excited about the change in direction for her though, I feel like it's going to sound a lot more mature lyrically (even the last record was to be fair)... and musically she can do whatever the hell she wants haha. |

I've always heard Amy Lee is meant to be a bit of a bitch. I've never seen it or read about it though, is there any known stories of videos of her 'acting out' or whatever anywhere?

Why? Evanescence is basically her lyrics/vocal arrangements backed up by the band who write the music. Her solo material will basically be the same thing but with a different band. I think she should have stuck with Evanescence.

Haha she does seem very big headed. No idea why considering her best work was fallen and anything before then with Ben....minus last song im wasting in you everything else has been a mess IMO
Evanescence (LP) The Open Door Origin Sound Asleep Fallen Evanescence (EP) (That's my order aha, and then the Fallen demos kinda just float about depending on my mood) Quote:

Amy's solo material allows her to create music that isn't rock or just specifically associated with Ev. A lot of her influences as she's stated before come from acts like Bjork, Tori Amos & Portishead... not particularly what Ev sound like. I mean to be fair to her, she did say she wanted to take this time to score films, which is what she's doing, but if it sprouts a range of material that can make a solo record, then I don't see why she couldn't do it? It's like saying "Why can't Evanescence just release an album full of piano ballads?" - the answer is because that's not an Evanescence record, that's an Amy Lee + piano record. |

Because Evanescence have a set sound, Amy actually writes the music too (melodies, piano, harp, strings) as well as the other guys.
Oh ok, I thought she might contribute to the music.Quote:

I don't think anyone would ever ask that but I get your point, she needs more freedom.

In an ideal world I guess. Just ask Shirley Manson though, who tried to make a solo album but her label wanted her to do pop and become the next Annie Lennox. Although if Amy has complete creative control that would be good. I don't think anyone would ever ask that but I get your point, she needs more freedom.
