EastEnders! *Stars of the Week*
Last week on EastEnders....
Monday: While Ian slowly pushes Denise out of his life, Ronnie is eager to creep into Lola's. The Spring Lane folk merge with the Bridge Streeters. And Dean seeks refuge at his Pop's. Tuesday: Dean's illegal activities gets his Grandad arrested. A naughty person emails Max a naughty picture which has him quaking in his size nines. Thursday: Mick and Nancy play a trick on the old man. Lucy makes a decision about what she really wants, while Cindy let's Ian know who his daughter really is. Friday: Denise visits her daughter and lets her know how she really feels. Whitney finds out she's come second best to Lucy. And finally Lucy is no more. Last week those who voted on the Stars of the Week thread thought that the late Lucy Beale gave the best performance she won by 77 votes (a new high score) and the runners up were.... - 2nd Place - Denise Fox - 42 Votes 3rd Place - Ian Beale - 40 Votes 4th Place - Mick & Lee Carter - 27 Votes 5th Place - Stan Carter - 26 Votes 6th Place - Nancy Carter - 21 Votes Lets take a look at this week in EastEnders... Monday: Ian potters about the square looking for his daughter unaware that on Walford Common the police in paper suits are clearing up Lucy's dead corpse. Lee wants Whitney's forgiveness while his Great Aunt Babe is back to give Stan a firm warning. Tuesday: Ian struggles to believe he has lost his only daughter and wants it proven to him. Lady Di gives birth to a litter of five newborns one almost doesn't make it, but King Philith is there to save the day. After realising the truth Ian has to explain to his family that one of his five kids is gone and there is nothing he can do about it. Thursday: Silence rules the Beale household as none of them know exactly what to say. The police arrive to start the Walford enquiry, but when Cindy seems eager to help by letting the police in on Lucy's.... extracurricular recreational activities she finds herself out on the street. Friday: Its a morbid day on Albert Square, but alas life must go on. The Walford enquiry continues with the houses of Branning and Carter being interrogated, but certain members of each family seem to be hiding something. A cold Aunt Gina arrives to take Cindy away to Plymouth, but again Ian is too sorry too late when Cindy is actually taken away - he then proceeds to drown his sorrows in his ex wife's lips. Which scenes and storylines entertained you the most this and which actors made them the most enjoyable? (Commenting helps bump the thread up and gives others a chance to vote) Pick 5 and let everyone know why! |

If Ian doesn't win with a new record, I don't know who will!
Ian - utterly phenomenal. I always knew Adam could do crying scenes really well but he showed so much emotion this week, he was amazing. Peter - That scene in the Square when he and Ian fell to the floor and his shouting in grief was brilliant. Hats off to Ben for a wonderful week of performances. Bobby - I thought he was great this week - as someone said in the episode thread tonight, he actually looks haunted by what's happened so a vote goes to him. Phil - Wow those scenes with Ian will go down in history. Steve was brilliant in them - you felt so much of Phil's emotion from Steve's performance. Mick - I loved the puppies scenes and Mick getting all agitated and worrying about them was hilarious. Danny plays those sorts of scenes brilliantly, alongside all the other great work he has done so far. Those scenes were also a nice little decoy from the grieving scenes. |

A little bit spoilt for choice this week. I went with:
Ian - obviously Peter Denise Jane DC Emma Summerhayes I really wanted to go for Phil as well, but I have really enjoyed Emma's presence this week. Not that I would have voted for her, but Pam is turning out to be a complete joy as well. |

Ian Beale - Adam Woodyatt has probably just delivered the performance of his career. The most emotional scenes I've ever seen on television.
Peter Beale - I thought Ben Hardy was great this week, the loss of a twin is one of the really interesting aspects of this story and something I hope we see more of as this storyline progresses. Lots of other great performances this week but these two were miles ahead. |

Ian - Absolutely brilliant. What else can you say?
Peter - I've never been massively convinced by Ben Hardy's acting in the past but this week has proved he can deliver when given the material. I hope he keeps this standard up. Denise - I cant sing Diane Parish's praises enough. She has such an amazing presence even when she's shrinking into the background watching everyone fall apart around her. Rapidly becoming one of my favourite characters. Phil - For saving the puppy and his lovely scene with Ian. It will probably be business as usual after this week but I've really found him quite charming. Emma Summerhayes - She's given a very good first impression and I'm looking forward to following her throughout the case. |

I went for Ian, Peter, Cindy, Jane, Denise, Dot and Emma as I felt those performances set the mood perfectly in all the scenes they were involved in.

Ian (that poll should have had Ian in it 5 times to be honest as he deserves 5/5 Adam has been outstanding I usually dislike Ian he can be a full on tool and an utter plonker most of the time but occasionally I root for but this week I've felt so sorry for him and Adam has done amazing
Peter Right up there with Ian the poor lads grief has been heartbreaking to watch he really does look like he is torn between his own feelings for the loss of his twin and the feelings of wanting to help Ian but I don't think he knows how to help himself let alone anyone else Jane Cindy and bobby all have been equally outstanding this week too but the two big stand outs above anyone else have been Peter and Ian But a special mention to the Carter's for their parts in the puppy birth and snooker/pool tournaments Which run along side and quietly enough in the background to not be annoying but offered enough normality and comedy to compliment it perfectly And the scene with Phil and Ian tonight deserves a mention too Adam stole the show but Steve did amazing and it was nice to see a friendlier side of Phil particularly towards Ian Oh and Emma has been a wonderful FLO you don't see those used as well in soaps as they have used her so far, hope they make her at least a recurring guest but a permanent cast member with friends on the square but not living there would be good too |

5. Pam Coker
(Usually the "kill you with kindness" characters make me sick, but there's something about Pam that is like a breath of fresh air) 4. Cindy Williams (Very convincing character. I hope to see more of her in the future hopefully her baby doesn't ruin her) 3. Phil Mitchell (Any tears from Phil is enough to make me vote for him. Very emotional and moving scene.) 2. Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt was great this week and gave us the full scope of emotion we could have possibly hoped for and I think his character, like Walford will have been changed forever.) 1. Peter Beale (I know everyone thought Ian was great this week, but Peter was the first character to give me the emotion I was hoping for. There wasn't one moment in this week where I didn't believe him. I think Ben Hardy is a terrific actor and I can't wait to see more from him over the course of this storyline.) Special mentions to Hetti Bywater for playing a corpse - some tricky stuff. Jamie Lomas for doing the Shifty McShifty pants act. And the police team made it very believable. |

A tough choice, but the acting this week was superb: Ian, Peter, Denise, Jane, Cindy, Phil just to name a few were all terrific.
That scene where Ian told Peter outside the Vic at the end of Tuesday's episode was the most memorable scene of the past few years in my opinion. Brilliantly acted. |

Yes but she herself got on with it. Not like those silly humans down below in the Vic doing all the stuff you mentioned.
Sure, got on with it, she did - indeed.

I voted Ian and Jane....Ian was truly amazing best acting ever in a soap. Jane reacted just as I figured she would. I know she's leaving again shortly but is them coming back permanently is the Autumn. I hope when she comes back that her and Ian do get back together.

73 people have voted but Adam Woodyatt has 63 votes - who declined to vote for him after his exceptional performances this week?!

I kept it to a top 5 but I could have chosen more.
1. Adam Woodyatt Wow just wow. The man played an absolute blinder throughout the week. Ian Beale has suffered so much from failed marriages to bankruptcy to being held hostage by his stepson that it's not surprising that finding out his 20 year old daughter had died absolutely broke him especially as they rowed the last time he saw her. It'd break any man but it's rare that we see such a raw outpouring of grief on a soap. Kudos to all involved as it felt so realistic. The nation's heart broke for him as we went on that journey with him, that journey every parent hopes they'll never have to make. This character that viewers have grown up with since he was in his teens and a young woman dying who we saw born and grow up on the show. That along with great acting, directing, writing and plotting made for heartbreaking stuff. Adam impressed me during the mental breakdown stuff, but this was another level. There's no justice if he doesn't win an award for this. Undisputed star of the week. 2. Ben Hardy Ben burst onto our screens 10 months ago but this was his first real opportunity to shine and show us what he's made of. He didn't disappoint. Ian telling him his twin had died was one of those haunting soap scenes that will stay with me for a long time. I know it received a fair bit of criticism, overacting etc. but I found it totally believeable. How can you over-react to your 20 year old twin dying? I thought it was brave to include the roaring 'no' and wailing as not many actors could pull that off, he did and it rounded off one of the best episodes the show has produced and broadcast. Following that, the grief was clearly etched on his face as he struggled to come to terms with it. I particularly liked his kitchen scene with Lauren where he recalled being separated from Lucy as a child and how he was mad that his telepathy hadn't worked , perhaps emphasising their drifting apart in more recent years. Hopefully, it continues in the same vein and we get to see what he's made of as an actor. The character of Peter has always lived in Lucy's shadow. Peter also seems to be in a similar situation as his father which I think is interesting, both in a relationship they don't belong in.3. Diane Parish Denise's story is particularly interesting, her planned exit halted by the untimely death of Lucy and she's left between a rock and a hard place. Obviously she's grieving for Lucy but she's also now stuck with Ian when its obvious both their hearts just aren't in it. She was particularly good in the scene where Ian told Bobby and Cindy. So much emotion portrayed solely through her face. Interesting to see where her character will go from here. 4. Laurie Brett This story wouldn't be as good without Jane. It was a great idea to bring her back before the story started so she could re-establish her place in the Square and relationship with the kids. She's probably the nearest thing they've had to a mother especially Bobby and it wouldn't be right if she wasn't here for this story, Laurie played it well IMO, understated until Jane finally broke at the end of Friday's episode. 5. Steve Mc Fadden Who'd have thought it? Phil Mitchell saving a puppy and comforting Ian Beale in the same week. It's refreshing to finally see the human side to Phil, it's much more believable than the 'King Phil' act. His scene with Ian was another landmark scene in a fantastic week of episodes. We've seen their turbulent relationship over the years and it was nice to see that put aside. Phil completely sympathised with his position having seen her grow up himself. Those two have so much history that'd it made for a really memorable scene. Grief changes people and relationships and it was a beautiful scene to demonstrate that. Where will they take the Phil/Ian relationship from here? #Phian |
