SD (Standard Definition) refers to resolution. |

Yes it is. 2D is now being used (although wrongly) for Standard Definition (SD 576i) television resolution. HD is high definition (1080i or 1080p). |

You view SD/HD in 2D unless it has been filmed/converted to 3D. |

Did you rest what I wrote? I did not say it is the same, I just said 2D is being wrongly used for SD picture nowadays. All outputs be it HD, SD or 4K are 2D, but people often use to call SD picture 2D.

I've never heard of anyone referring to SD as 2D.
![]() Maybe 4K TVs will be 4D.

2D simply means not 3D, ordinary pictures in other words, SD or HD.

Two dimensions (2D) has height and width (no depth). Like a photograph.
Three dimensions adds depth to the above. Like a pair of photographs taken from a slightly different viewpoint roughly the same distance apart as our eyes viewed in a stereoscopic viewer. It has nothing to do with resolution except that the requirement to present a different image to each eye at the same time requires a high definition TV, Trying to produce a 3D full colour image with only 720 x 576 pixels on a passive display with only 360 x 576 pixels for each image would look terrible. |

1920x1080p is Full HD. 3840x2160p is Ultra HD (4K). |
