The Tardis and Time Travel

So the Tardis can travel through time can it?

Why doesn't the doctor go forward in time and find out how his current incarnation died?
He could visit old faces without them knowing who he is. He couldn't change anything, fixed points and all that.

When the master appeared, why didn't 10 just go forward and see how it ends?

I'll put this in spoilers incase
Spoiler
He phones Clara and tells her to trust the new doctor (from rumours we've heard) in the new series. Why not just go there and tell her himself.

I want a tardis. Would be so much fun.

The general answers to such things are either that he dosen't like to cross his own timeline unless absolutely necessary due to the risk of possible universe ending paradoxes, or the other stock answer is he can't use the TARDIS as he is 'part of events' once he becomes involved in the current situation (see 'girl in the fireplace' for an example of this).

The second one is particularly interesting because you could take it further and say the doctor is 'part of events' of his own life which is why he can never look ahead.

I get why you asked though because obviously in real life you would just look ahead if you had the power to, but the show writers know that it wouldn't be a very good show if the doctor could just see how the episode ends at the start every time, and so that is why we there are written in excuses as to why he can't or shouldn't.

I just watched back to the future and thought of the doctor in a long coat and hat looking at his future self.
From a series point of view it wouldn't work, as the doctor knew he wouldn't die chasing bad guys.

The Doctor might not need to look ahead if he is aware of how the past has colluded by seeing the parts of time he missed, due to his companions shenanigans.

When you really, think about what The Doctor does, he helps people but they don't always see that part, they see something else from their point of view at that moment, a moment, that may be actually a different moment in the future and from a different perspective.

Companion- Doctor, how are you here already?
The Doctor-Was I here?
Companion- Yes, I saw you.
The Doctor-Did you?

He goes forward and back in the whole universe of time and space, not forward and back within his own time line (otherwise it would be Quantum Leap, I suppose). In order to find out where he next 'dies', he would have to find out exactly when and where that is. And if he knows that, then there's nothing for him to go looking for.

Alternatively, if he spends his life watching his future self and working out where he's going to go next and skipping ahead to catch himself there, he's never actually going to be able to get round to doing those things, so they won't happen.

Crossing your own timeline is nasty.

I thought that like Day of The Doctor He'll forget whatever information he obtains from the future doctor until he observes events from future doctors perspective

Maybe - so what would be the point in doing it?
