Could one of the BT YouView users answer a couple of questions about how the internet channels function?
Do the fast forward/rewind and skip functions work in the same way as the main (Freeview) channels?
Does the epg function in the same way as the main channels, in particular do the indications for recorded and series record programmes (i.e. the the red circles displayed in the epg) work in the usual way?
Thanks.

FF/Rew works slightly differently on the ip channels in that you only get forward 1 minute and rewind 15 seconds no matter which buttons you use (I am told it is because of the type of coding used and never likely to change). The EPG seems to function in exactly the same way I.e. I can see red circles for anything I have on record/series record and red circle with a tick for items already recorded. I am happy to check anything more specific if you ask.

One problem I have had is when using the Skip forward / back in chase-play on a still active recording in that sometimes it skips back to a lot earlier in the recording meaning you need to go back into the Recording list to move the playbar back to where you where then resume playback. Not a problem when skipping through completed recordings.

Once in a while I have noticed this same problem but its only a minor problem.

It becomes a big problem if you catch a spoiler when watching sport. Need to remember to mute the sound and avoid looking at the top right of the screen at the preview picture while repositioning.

Thanks for your help.
And am I right in assuming that the recordings are also made with the same type of coding so FF/Rew behaves in the same way?

This inconsistent behaviour is disappointing - it must be theoretically possible to transcode the internet content into the same format as normal recordings. Presumably the problem is due to a lack of processing power.

A little bit about it here...

Great comments there!

"...on the BT Vision+ box I receive exactly the same broadband multicast channels and can record them and use fast forward in the normal manner. It doesn't skip it plays the recordings at a faster speed (x2, x8, etc) exactly as it does with the Freeview channel recordings. Why the poorer implementation on the Youview box?"

"It is mainly due to the architecture of the youview ecosystem so it will be the same on the new G4 box."

Are the programmes on the internet channels found by the main YouView search?
