Do you buy all your music or steal them?
Just wondering how many of you actually buy all your music from legitimate stores like iTunes, and HMV. I don't. I only buy the artists that I feel like they have impressed me enough for me to support them by buying their songs, other than that it's all ahem you know.

Can you even download illegally these days? I have no idea, years ago there was winmx, but these days I thought that everyone had to download from legal sites like itunes or amazon? thats where I get mine anyway.

Are you seriously asking this question. I'm pretty sure a lot of people still downloads off free mp3 sites. I mean hell my 12 year old cousin downloads all his songs of dodgy mp3 sites.

The only album I have downloaded illegally are an extremely rare one that would cost a couple of grand to buy a proper vinyl copy, and the artist would not see a penny of that as it would be via eBay.

I'm not admitting anything, but pointing out the obvious. You really need to stop pretend to live in a fairy tale world where no one uses free mp3 sites.

I do have several CD's of music i haven't brought, but that's full of unreleased tracks by the likes of Amy winehouse, Lana del rey and Madonna. Stuff you can't actually buy. |

I know it goes on...but I don;t think it's right. As for 'not admitting' you've certainly alluded to it

Its not right to give my hard earned money to big corporations like Sony, BMG, Sysco when they are already making millions of dollars in ad revenue, sales, concerts, etc. I will however buy songs from indie bands that are not supported by these big recording companies who's only motive is profit from us consumers and rip us off as much possible.

What a weak Robin Hood argument...you're taking stuff without paying for it and that's not right, no matter who you take it from.
Oh please, I feel no sympathy for these greedy corporations. If they suffer too bad for them, they can't be arsed to regulate their own product in this day and age of digital distribution. It's their problem they can't control what they distribute to the customers. They really seem to fail to understand the internet era where people share music all the time. |

Hahahahaha. Corporations have so many tricks up their sleeves when it comes to avoiding/dodging taxes. It's not right, yet they still do it. Tell me how it is any different than that.

It's not the labels that suffer, it's the artists themselves who lose money.

I buy everything. The only time I've ever illegally downloaded is when the song isn't available to buy legally (e.g. a leaked demo).

I don't buy all my music. I tend to either listen to it on spotify or somewhere like that if it's new, and if it's something I like and/or the packaging is nice, I'll buy it.
If I wouldn't like enough to warrant playing it multiple times, the chances are it'll just sit in my library on spotify. With iTunes, I do like buying things on there, but it's usually just EPs and the like where the phsyical is either the same price or more expensive. I rarely buy singles either because the people who I like, I end up getting the album when it's out (I mean obviously if I want the single prior to an album's release then that's different). So basically, I rarely 'illegally download' unless it's something that is RIDICULOUSLY hard to get a hold of or the money itself won't be going to the label/artist/whoever. Even if I'm skint, I'll just keep the album on a streaming service until I can afford to buy it. I think with the way there are so many online services to buy and stream both music and movies, there's not really an excuse to download illegally, especially if they're albums that are readily available both in store and online (With the exception of tracks that aren't actually available to buy of course, like demos and stuff). |
