Mexican tele novelas are crap. There used to be a channel Zone Romanica on Freesat before CBS took over and discontinued it. The channel was packed with latino tele novelas and talk shows.
Why can't our soaps be like this?

I sort of love that they are so over the top, it's interesting to see other soaps from other countries and their style.
God, South American telenovellas make our soaps look like top-class thrillers. What a cheesy, campy mess. The only plus point about telenovellas is that they run for a certain number of episodes, so I'd assume their storylines are planned out better.
I remember when I used to watch Ugly Betty and they would show clips of Betty's father watching telenovelas and I'd never heard of them before and presumed it was just a way of poking fun at the soap genre until I realised those shows actually do exist. 
But stuff like that and Sunset Beach can be entertaining just for the laughs. Some of the acting on SB was so bad you had to watch.

I don't remember that. I remember Salma Hayek being in one.
I imagine the death rate must be high on Mexican soaps, more so than Hollyoaks. Somebody must die in a drive-by shooting every episode
