Orange was my first network, I had Everyday 50 on a second line and 30 minutes on my main line, 2 numbers going to the same phone where you held down hash to switch between talk plans.

I tried Wildfire, although didn't leave it on for long. I remember free 0800 calls and per second billing, and the unique branding back then, they really were quite revolutionary.

The service was so stable and reliable back then.

I joined August 1996. Same number ever since. Same account number till I Moved to 4G in 2012. Shame it all fell apart.

I'd say talk plans with inclusive minutes must be on your list as it really shook up tariffs.

Perhaps OVP too? After Virgin Mobile launched and said how popular their tariffs were, Orange agreed and said they had more customers on their Virgin tariff than Virgin!

They might have been last of the four to launch but by I think 2001 they were first in terms of customer totals.

Ah, yes, OVP. Forgot about that - and now I do indeed remember Orange claiming it had more Virgin tariff customers than Virgin.

I prefer the name and brand identity of Orange. It is much more iconic and memorable. The tacky 'Everything Everywhere' and the dotted turquoise logo do nothing for me. Course it isn't as important as the service offered, but something else would've been better, surely. Maybe just Orange Mobile with both logos somehow incorporated.

Happy Birthday but at the same time RIP to the Instore gold fish, Wildfire and the Feng shui, OVP etc. The quirky brand that made it different. It's a hollow, soulless version of itself. More Bacon-y.

As for coverage it varies over the UK, with all networks. But overall EE cannot be beaten on 4G & 3G. Even with 2G now it's pretty close to being the best,

It didn't used to be. I remember my Nokia on Orange in 1995 was superb, although the coverage wasn't that great.

Orange went downhill very badly in the early 00s and has only got worse. I will never, I repeat NEVER use EE.

I thought Wildfire was the future, and so did Orange - I think they gave me it free at launch. I also remember begging customer services to remove it a few months later.

I still have an active OVP Virgin tariff on an Orange SIM! Hardly economical to use but great as emergency use as I don't have to keep topping up to keep things active.

I miss the old Orange ads often screened in cinemas - car chase across a bar, Orange Wednesdays...

I don't miss the pants signal where I lived but loved the perceived glamour of being on the network which felt like it had class.

I really don't miss the terrible 3G speeds.

There's an interview with Hans somewhere where has says he's on 50 a day or something but it's ok coz he takes a cocktail of vitamins to counteract it!

Orange Pay As You Talk broke new ground in that unlike other networks (Cellnet and Vodafone) the airtime vouchers lasted longer than 30 days. Remember the adverts saying "There's no OUCH in our vouchers"

Who remembers the inclusive Orange care on some plans ? The Try bundles free for a month or if you dropped a call to Orange they would credit your with extra talk time.

Ahh yes, the end of free Orange Care was when I left.

^ This. A lot of people had an affection for the orange brand, and certainly the cinema advertising played a big part. I always looked forward to seeing the advert before the film. The EE brand just doesn't have the same effect.
