I feel as if with EastEnders, they tend to 'play safe' and only nominate the same certain actors each year regardless of how much screen time they've had. Lacey Turner is one of them and so now she is back she's automatically straight onto the short list. It does seem ridiculous given the fact she was there for less than a month.
Why wasn't Jacqueline Jossa even considered for best actress what with her (imo) brilliant alcohol storyline? Lacey Turner got more recognition than her yet she hasn't had half as much screen time or a storyline nearly as significant.

But really, as long as these awards are public voted it's never going to be about who's most deserving. It's a popularity contest, nothing more.

Exactly this. Chris Gascoigne is up for best villain which is their perogative of course but I feel is as ludicrous as lacey being nominated/shortlisted. All soaps can nominate who they want.

There was a thread about it when the longlist was announced and yes I agree it is rather insulting to the other actresses. The fact she had only had about 2 episodes aired (and / duff duffs with no speach) at the time of nomination just makes a mockery of the Awards. It was clear they were putting her forward because she has a proven track record for winning rather than the work she'd done this year which is what the Awards should be judged on.
I have nothing against Lacey, I think she is a good actress and deserved her Awards in the past (especially for bi-polar) but she simply hasn't done enough this year to warrant a nomination.
It does seem to send a clear signal to the other actresses that no matter what they do, how good they are Lacey will always be nominated over them which must be quite demoralizing.
That said, viewers have vooted for her so....

I agree OP, but it's not as if Danny Dyer deserves to be there too. Hasn't been on screen enough yet to be nominated for a high award like that.
